How do you protect winter babies throat?

I struggle to find out if babies should wear some sort of scarf or not. I live in Scandinavia and it's pretty cold up here but I can't find any accessories to cover babies throat/neck.I am 38+6 so I will need to find out soon! Baby will wear a warm overall and a warm beanie that covers part of the cheeks. How about the neck?
Thanks for your tips!!

I worried a baby might strangle themselves with a scarf. mine was fine without one but UK winters aren't as cold as where you are.

Snowsuits frame their faces

Buglife · 20/02/2018 19:49

Scarves are uncommon as they are a strangulation risk. Nearly all snow suits etc one ever seen zip up to the chin and have a good so cover the neck fine? To be fair over never thought that having the throat exposed poses a particular risk of cold/illness as they are caused by virus or infection rather than cold? But anyway a snowsuit should be fine.

Ugh that was riddled with typos!

silkpyjamasallday · 20/02/2018 19:58

A snowsuit should cover the neck, but you could maybe get some polo neck bodysuits if you are worried. I think H&M do them

Thissameearth · 20/02/2018 19:58

All the snowsuits I’ve seen and bought button up right up to and in fact over the chin so neck isn’t exposed

look into prans to see what babies are wearing.
usually a padded suit/snow suit over an onsie. hat&hood.
under a fluffy down pillow as blanket.

Thanks guys for your confirming scarf isn't an option. I try to look in prams and all I can see is a paire of eyes usually! Babies are under onesies and blankets so I couldn't see the neck. I have a good overall with a hoodie and a wool beanie, it should do the job!

Snowsuits come up high, as others have said. When ds started toddling I donated one first of my buffs, then one of my fleece neck gaiters to him, as I didn't want him to have a long scarf. But you've plenty of time to figure that out later!

JeansAndANiceTop · 20/02/2018 21:24

Snowsuit zipped right up to his chin. He has one which is a bit loose around the neck so I usually keep his bib on him when he wears it.

cowbag1 · 20/02/2018 21:26

Whenever I've been to Scandinavia in the winter all the children seem to have baby balaclavas on, like adult ones but with the face cut out.

YesItsADebate · 20/02/2018 21:28

I used to use fleece-backed baby bandana bibs. Not yet n a newborn though; their snowsuits go right up under the chin.

brownelephant · 20/02/2018 21:34

older toddlers/pre-schoolers wear neck warmers like this
and those ski hat/balaklava things cowbag describes

Foggymist · 21/02/2018 11:49

Newborn babies necks are tiny, barely visible, they get easily covered by whatever clothes the baby is wearing, don't worry about it. As you said yourself all you see is eyes when they're wrapped up.
