Hi I’m new to this so I do apologise if this topics been covered many times, and it’s a bit long winded

Basically I’m 37 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. My first birth (6 years ago) was horrendous and my daughter was delivered my forceps and ended up with a broken collar bone, the fear of birth is what has put me off having anymore sooner.

However this time I’m under consultant care due to a large complex cyst on my left ovary (15cm) it was mentioned to me that If I needed a c section it would be removed then and if not I would have to come back shortly after delivery and have it removed.

Along with the cyst I’ve been back and forward to the cardiac unit with palpatations, dizziness and tachycardia (my heat has reached anything up to 190 bpm and 160 at rest). I also have a very painful back and hips which I’ve always had (my epidural failed the last time as aneathetist couldn’t place it in my spine correctly due to shape of spine) plus my placenta is lower than it should be and I’ve had awful sickness which seems to be getting worse past week again ( I'm a stone lighter now than I was at the start of pregnancy)

With all these other factors my anxiety is now though the roof I thought my consultant would have recommended a section and remove the cyst then but he says there’s a higher chance of loosing the ovary and would still recommend a natural birth, then refer me back to gynae for surgery afterwards. I don't know where I stand with regards to it being my choice to decide, or ultimately is it the consultants?

Speak to your midwife and let her know that you want a c section due to the previous birth. Have you actually told the surgeon that you would prefer a c-section? If the think a natural birth will be safe then there's no reason for them to suggest a c- section so you need to tell them that you actually want one.

I don't see any midwives I just see my consultant every four weeks, he's not very easy to talk to and I just sort of agree with him. I had seen my old consultant before xmas and she was really good and had mentioned about a section but he's of a different opinion. I didn't know if I could just ask for a section, I don't want to seem like I'm being lazy and taking "the easy way" im not adverse to pain, I've had fibromyalgia since I was 17 I've lived most of my adult life in pain but but I'm worried about my heart and if I've to have surgery anyway I don't see what I'm preventing from having a natural labour, and to leave a young baby at home for me to go back to hospital can't be good either.

I would definitely speak you the consultant and leery him know how you feel. Could you perhaps ring the department he works at and leave a message for him ahead of your next appointment?
Prehaps take someone with you to the next appointment for support.

You're always entitled to have a second opinion. I would call and ask to see someone else. When you do (have all your questions written down), simply say you would prefer a planned c-section.

Might be an idea to write down what you want to say.

Do you mind much if you lose the ovary? What I mean is, are you done having kids? What if you end up with an emergency section? They won't touch the cyst then and you'd have to have a second surgery. Ask them to talk through the risks of BOTH options, the vaginal birth (with regards to your heart, fibro and the cyst) and a planned section.

No I couldn't care less if I loose the ovary, after this pregnancy I'm definitely done and dusted. He more or less said if it came down to it and I needed a section they would remove it then, so I'm imagining if I need an emergency they would remove it, but I will ask him today as I definitely do not want to go for surgery twice. I'm have my questions lined up before I go in and see how I get on. Fingers crossed
