I had a baby today.....

...well not personally, but because we were a bit busy there were no students or midwives available and I got to catch a baby on my own
I usually spend all day allocating midwives and assisting them that I hardly get 'hands on' myself.
It was a lovely birth and there was also a lovely pool birth. Both mums looked great afterwards and walked to the ward rather than pushed in a chair. It is lovely to see birth so naturally, with not a stitch in sight. I love my job again ...

awwww that sounds so good. must make your job so worthwhile.

hope i get a nice midwife again, unlike with dd1.

happymummy1 · 31/07/2004 22:10

Hi mears that sounds wonderful. You do have a nice job!
The miracle of life is so amazing,i only have to look at my little boy to realise just how amazing it really is.

Gem13 · 31/07/2004 22:11

mears - I think you should become an independent midwife and travel to do mumsnetter's births. Can I sign up next time please?

edam · 31/07/2004 22:12

Aw, I'm so glad Mears, for you and for these two new mothers. Did you mention MN ?

libb · 31/07/2004 22:15

You will be my midwife next time . . . no question about it

Wills · 31/07/2004 22:16

That's lovely mears. Made me think though - why do so many of us end up with sitches. I want a third and I'd give a lot to know the secret of no stitches!

Wills · 31/07/2004 22:17

I second Gem13's suggestion - I'd pay - really

mears · 31/07/2004 22:18

Wills - the secret is breathe, breathe, breathe, bloody well breathe.......NO PUSHING

Do you know that I always wonder if any of the mums are Mumsnetters. I never do ask though.

That is where I went wrong! was too over enthusiastic about getting DS out as soon as possible. My midwife was ace and did tell me not to though . . . . Guess labour can make you very bloody minded!

Kif · 31/07/2004 22:32

I was just driving past my hospital the other day and thinking about what an odd job it must be to bring people into the world every day... don't think I'll ever forget the little details, or the midwives... then when you think how many people in Brighton feel like I do - kind of connected to the midwives that helped them... definitely not your average job!

Thomcat · 31/07/2004 22:33

Well done mears and a massive well done for not letting them tear, on behalf of all women who had a good midwife and didn't tear - we thank you!

mears · 01/08/2004 07:23

I'm off to work this morning and will probably have a sh*t day

crikey mears, got a bit of a fright when I saw the title and your name!

Isn't promotion wierd - you work hard to get it, then end up moving away from why you went into the profession in the first place.

Hope you have another good day

mears · 02/08/2004 23:41

Had another good day. Haven't managed to tempt you Highlander?

not yet, you little tinker!

really pleased work and life seems to be going better for you.

edam · 03/08/2004 18:59

Glad job is so satisfying at the moment, Mears ? must be fantastic to actually catch a baby, as you put it (conjures up an amusing image, though!). Long may it continue.

katierocket · 03/08/2004 19:20

oh mears you sound like such a fab midwife. I wish I had had such a good one during my labour. I know it's stating the bleeding obvious but supportive midwifes make SUCH a difference.

mckenzie · 03/08/2004 19:22

mears, where in England are you? perhaps I'll move house just in time for giving birth. My first midwife with DS1 scarred me mentally for life I think!!

mears · 03/08/2004 21:37

I'm in Bonnie Scotland

... you do realise that if MNers work out which hospital, there will be a stampede of pregnant women moving to your part of the world?

mears · 03/08/2004 22:01

Stop it, you are embarrassing me now

I had another TWO babies today. One of them was all by myself and the second one was a waterbirth. Fantastic day again. Bound to end soon.....

Maybe we should work on a way of cloning mears?
