C section ?

Hi all,

I'm new to this. I've always been frightened of childbirth and i've heard all the stories from different people. I'm just wondering but is there an option to opt for a c section? I would feel a lot more comfortable with this than to give birth naturally. Its a decision that myself and my partner are both comfortable with.

Thanks
Xx

Yes, you can ask to have a c-section. It's not a straightforward process and some hospitals make it harder than others but you should be able to deliver how you prefer.

You will need to demonstrate you know and understand the risks of a c-section. So you need to brush up on that.
Read NICE guidelines about maternal request c-sections. The organisation Birthrights has info on their website as well.
You will meet midwives and obstetricians several times probably before its agreed. If the first consultant says no, they must refer you to someone who will.
If the hospital says they don't do maternal requests, contact Birthrights.
I haven't gone through that process but I'm sure others here have and might advise further.
All the best.

You're not alone-I've just found out I'm pregnant and know the only way I can cope (mental health wise) is with a c section. I've researched lots, and am still doing so. I just hope that at my booking appt I can get the reassurance I need (ie, that the midwife will say that if that's what I want after speaking to all the relevant people then that's what will happen) otherwise I'm going to be a very stressed nervous wreck. Birthrights have been great (I contacting them before coming off the pill) also look for Pauline hull on Twitter, she is a campaigner for women's rights for c sections. X

I'm only nearly 5 weeks. But after mother tore form vagina to bottom with me, and so do other people I know I 100% am having a c section! I will fight my corner as its 100% what I want if you read the N.I.C.E Guidelines it does clearly state that if the maternal mother has fear of childbirth upon request should she have a c section. If your consultant will not deal with this request you are referred to another one who will. So when I have appointment in a few weeks I will already be phoning around!
