Hi there. I am hoping to have a home birth and am pregnant with first child. At my 30 week appointment the baby was definitely breech and i was wondering if this was quite common and whether they turn in time? am not sure how big babies are at this stage or if they have room to manouveur!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Mine was breech at 34weeks but turned by my 36 week appointment. There's plenty of time for it to turn.

Stigaloid, don't worry just yet! You have ten weeks to go. FWIW dd1 turned just hours before I was booked in for a section so I got to go home and deliver naturally two weeks later! There is lots of advice on here about getting a baby to turn - just do a search on "breech" and you'll turn up lots of threads

Oooh thanks. Am sure it will all be fine but just don't want to lose my chance of a home birth! Thanks for the advice - will chase the links.

hi there! It is extremely likely that your baby will turn in time and indeed many don't turn until labour starts so try not to worry about it too much. It is possible, with an experienced mw, to birth a breech baby but generally the NHS mws do not have the experience and you need to look to an IM.

If you want to be proactive about getting baby to turn here are a few links that you could look through for tips to try.

Ds2 was breech and turned at 36 weeks. I can still remember the night of lying awake and feeling him inch around very slowly and very painfully . Plenty time yet!

Last week at 38+3 I was told baby was probably breech and I was booked in for a scan the next day to confirm. That night there was much movement and the bump definately felt different the next morning. Went for the scan and baby was head down. I am convinced that it had turned over night so I would guess that there is plenty of time yet for yours to do so too. I am now 39+3 and hoping that it stays where it is!!!

My first turned at 33+ weeks, I felt that the head was not as high up one morning more to the side so I went for a long walk and sure enough later on it felt like it had turned. Second time round my midwife was convinced it was breech at 34 weeks and although I didn't feel it move around, at my 36 week appointment it was definately head down.

Hi sorry I know this is a couple of days old but just wanted to say my ds was breech at that stage and I spent ages worrying about a breech birth. Long story short he had turned by the next visit. In hind sight, I was big and he wasn't so he still had room to move.
As I understand it it is pretty common for baby to turn after that stage, even sometimes turning during labour!

Good luck!

DD was breeech & I had ECV at 37wks - she turned back breech again 2 days later!

She then turned under her own steam at 38+6, & was born at 39+4, so they can & do turn late, despite what they tell you
