Being induced in 2 days, terrified.

Just got back from hospital and they’ve said baby isn’t growing as fast as they’d like so they’re inducing me in two days when i’ll be 39+3. I’ve never heard a positive story about induction, and the leaflet they’ve given me says a woman is more likely to need epidural/forceps/ventouse if she’s induced...I obviously want to do all I can to avoid this! I’m expecting a hell of a lot more pain, but does anybody have any “ok” experiences of induction??? And has anybody ever been induced and been able to go in the pool? I know I won’t be able to go in the pool if I’m hooked up to the drip, but the midwife said it wasn’t completely impossible for me to go in the pool providing I wasn’t hooked up to the drip at the time. This is my first birth and I’m unbelievably disheartened BUT staying positive!

I know two women who have been induced in the last year, one due to diabetes and one due to waters breaking early. Both of them had really quick, drug free labours - quicker and less painful than my spontaneous one!

You just don't know what you're going to get - much like all vaginal birth really. It could be awful, it could be amazing.

Good luck OP

Good luck op, everything will be ok. Hope everything goes smoothly for you 🙂

Newnaime · 11/02/2018 09:58

Good luck! So exciting xx

I was induced last week. Midwife explained it was likely to be a long process being first baby etc. 10hours from them starting me off and had my baby in my arms. The last hour I went from 2-3cms to fully dilated and pushing. No time for pain relief and nearly ended up giving birth on the antenatal ward but it all turned out okay in the end. In comparison two other women were over 24 hours and no effects so it seems to be pot luck. You’ll be fine! Good Luck Smile

Eeek well I had the pessary at 10:30 yesterday morning and it’s now 4am and I’m contracting a lot but I’ve not been examined so not sure whether I’m dilating! I bloody hope so. Managing well on codeine at the moment. Fingers crossed more starts to happen soon, but not too quickly as my fiancé has been sent home (visiting hours finish at 9 wtf?!) and it’s snowing a hell of a lot!

I don't have much advice but just wanted to wish you luck Flowers I'm being induced Sunday and I'm terrified Sad

lizzlebizzle33 · 12/02/2018 04:30

Hi there, I know it's hard but please try not to worry yourself.
I had an induction at 40 +3 and it was absolutely fine, straight forward labour, gas and air, no epidural or forceps.

Induced at 3pm, active labour by 6.30 and had my baby boy at 10.30, and he was 9.5lb!

Try not to get hung up on the horror stories op, good luck.xxx

WishUponAStar88 · 12/02/2018 04:49

Good luck op - each contraction is one closer to meeting your little baby! Hope they arrive soon for you Flowers

RandomMess · 12/02/2018 07:58

Hope things are progressing!

I was induced at 41+6. The pessary started things off pretty much immediately. It was an intense, painful labour but I didn't need an epidural. I think people tend to experience greater discomfort when they have the drip.

Trust your medical team and soon your baby will be here. I'd suggest throwing any birth plans you had in mind and just go with your body on the day.

You can do this. You were born for it, ideally not a medically induced 'it', but.. you might be surprised. Hopefully you'll be one of the positive induction stories.

justanotheruser18 · 12/02/2018 08:08

Eeeep just saw that OP is contracting. Wishing you a safe delivery xxxxx

tupck · 12/02/2018 08:18

I was induced with my ds op it was an absolute success and you it doesn't mean you WILL need an epidural I had a needle in my leg (forgot the name was all a blur) that just made me sleep during contractions but that was only because I was sick on gas n air so please don't worry these things can go really well

dowhatyoufeelnow · 12/02/2018 14:51

Hopefully you have had your baby op.

Hariup · 12/02/2018 16:41

I’m due to be induced on Thursday which is my due date. I have been dreading the whole labour process as I’m number 6 due to have their baby in an NCT group and have listened to all their stories so far ( no ones has been good Shock)

So nice to hear other mums talking about their experiences, you have made me feel much better as they don’t sound so dramatic Smile

dowhatyoufeelnow · 12/02/2018 18:08

Aw good luck @Hariup, so exciting.

user1498549192 · 12/02/2018 18:11

I was induced and it was fine! I had an epidural on medical advice, but it was quick, easy (relatively!) and complication-free. Good luck and enjoy your lovely, soon-to-be-here little bundle.

Hariup · 12/02/2018 21:35

Thank you Smile! Xx

WishUponAStar88 · 13/02/2018 03:56

I hope everything’s ok TLH and you’re cuddling your baby by now Flowers

Newnaime · 13/02/2018 04:56

Hope it went well OPFlowers

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 13/02/2018 09:19

Hope it went well, and you can update when you get chance x
@Hariup Good luck!

jacobsgirl · 13/02/2018 09:25

My induction was fine !
The only thing I didn't like was the slightly longer hospital stay.
I got an epidural but because I knew I wanted one anyway - totally helped didn't feel a thing.
My induction itself wasn't much to complain about just the length of time but not particularly painful. I had my son at 37 weeks and he was perfect 6lbs 10 :)

Good luck you'll do fine Thanks

Owlettele · 13/02/2018 09:33

Hi OP. Good luck. You will soon be having newborn snuggles. I was induced twice. Both times once active labour kicked in it was fast and babies were born fairly quickly. I didn't have pain relief either time. No access to pool due to not being sent ob to labour ward quickly enough. I did however spend transition each time in the bath which helped me. I just had one pessary each time so there are positive inductions and you may not need a drip.

Hope all goes smoothly Flowers
