Derby Royal or Chesterfield?

Any opinions?

I'm consultant led so no access to MLU, likely to opt for ELCS over induction as they're likely to want bean out about 39 weeks. I don't fancy a failed induction followed by emergency Cs.

Derby royal purely on the basis my friend is the most wonderful person and a midwife there. She is always telling me how fantastic her team are.

I dont have any actual experience or evidence to back up her claims though but I didnt want your post to go unanswered.

Can you arrange a visit to both to help you decide?

Derby Royal, hands down.

I had a few appointments at Derby and it was fine, but then ended up at Chesterfield in emergency situation, ended up with emergency C section. If you'd have asked me in advance I would have chosen Derby, thinking it was bigger and more 'cutting edge' as a teaching hospital but Chesterfield were fantastic, felt smaller but more personal because of it. Excellent care, couldn't fault it and would recommend it. Though I am sure Derby would have been fine too! However, I wasn't consultant led, so that may change your view.

I realise it's a very unhelpful, on the fence answer though!

Well, I am sat in the Labour ward at Derby Royal right now (after emergency admission for a big bleed last night). I can't fault the care. The consultants have been fab and the midwives have all been lovely. I am consultant led too but am very happy so far. I find out later if it is a c-section or induction but feel very safe and well looked after here.
The only negative point has been that the twinkly lights in my ceiling aren't working 🤗 but I can cope with that !

Derby Royal, I was consultant led with a ELCS there and they were amazing. The care was wonderful, my consultant actually did my ELCS and everyone was very kind and considerate. Also the rooms on the ward are lovely and even if you end up in a room with other people they are spacious and light. Couldn't fault them at all.

They offered me to stay longer if I felt I needed it but were happy to discharge me when I asked as I had ticked all the boxes and the post birth checks were done quickly and gently both for me and DD. They encouraged and helped me BF, but gently and another woman they helped her bottle feed because it's what she wanted. They were even brilliant with DDs dad when he had a panic attack while I was in surgery. You also have the bonus of an on site children's hospital, which touch wood you wont need, but I found it a comfort that it was there.

I couldn't say a bad word about them and am now going back to a different department for an operation I need on a different body part. Still seems as lovely. Also have friends who have been to both who recommend them.

Best of luck wherever you choose and congratulations!
