32 weeks pregnant, period pains

Apologies for the long post, just looking for a bit of reassurance. Last Wednesday I had really bad cramps and this developed into horrible diarrhoea and vomiting. I think the vomiting was as a consequence of the pain. I was convinced it was a stomach bug and these symptoms lasted until the Friday. Since then I’ve continued to have what feel like period pains, and nausea but no vomiting. I have also had mild back ache. (I now know I shouldn’t have, having read posts on here) but while in the bath earlier I inserted a finger just to see if I could feel a head and noticed that my cervix is soft. I had my 32 week appointment with a male doctor this morning who said as long as movement is fine it’s probably just baby engaging but he didn’t examine me. He said the heart rate is normal and found it at the bottom of my bump with a Doppler. I am currently 32+3 with my first baby and so anxious about the whole situation. Despite the doctor reassuring me. Would it be ridiculous to call the midwife for reassurance?

No, not ridiculous at all. That's what they're there for. Hope you get the reasurance you need.

Thank you, I gave them a ring and they said it’s better to be safe than sorry. Pain and nausea I can deal with happily as long as I know it’s normal and I’m not doing any harm by ignoring it.

No not ridiculous, give them a call if you have genuine worries.
