Am thinking of trying for a VBAC with second baby, but am terrified of giving birth. How much would a doula cost? Has anyone tried hynotherapy to get through preg and labour? Did it help?

I'm a huge fan of Hypnobirthing (The Mongan Method). I was terrified of giving birth agaon after DS1, but found a Hypnobirthing brilliant. Four years ago I paid about £250. Well, well worth the money.

hi
my doula is charging £600 but it is London..so far we have met her three times and I'm really confident she will be worth every penny!
I'm doing a two day hypnobirthing course - it's £300 and i think there are about six couples in the class. I don't know if it will work but i'm keen to give it a go! if not, it should teach some useful relaxation techniques for life in general!
I think a doula is well worth it to ensure you have someone who has experienced childbirth herself and witnessed many other births with you at all times. There are too many tales of women in labour being left alone because the midwives are too busy - though it's probably worse in the big london hospitals than elsewhere.

I found a local doula through a link from Lulumama (see below) and when I rang her she was on maternity leave! BUT...she recommended a friend who is a yoga-in-pregnancy teacher, and wants to train as a doula, and although she hasn't the experience of some, she is very keen and knows a lot about active births etc.
I was a sceptic about yoga (never had time to try it before) but since she's been here and helped me with exercises etc, I'm really enjoying it and think she will be a wonderful person to have around.

She really wants to attend someone's birth and so I feel Ok about it...she's not charging me at all and I've already had two visits, could have had more if I'd wanted, but found her late on. She's coming again before my due date next week, and I hope she will be the first person I call when things kick off.

She's lovely and it's all free of charge.
Total recommendation from a happy (trainee)doula client!
