Anyone induced at 38 weeks?

I went in for a growth scan today at 38w2d as I measure 5-6 weeks behind. They found that I have low amniotic fluid and they want to induce me tomorrow. I was set on a natural birth and I'm really worried that being induced so early will result in a c-section. Does anyone have experience of being induced early and if so, how did it go? Also, has anyone else had low amniotic fluid at this point and if so, what did you end up doing? Thanks.

Hey
My friend was induced around the same time after developing pre-eclampsia and she didn't have a csection but did end up needing an epidural. Try not to worry too much sweetie better baby is out safely which ever way they have to get him/her out. Try and go with the flow of the process.

Best of luck xx

I was induced at 38 weeks due to reduced movement. It took a few days (pessary and 2 gels) but the waiting time was absolutely fine because I wasn’t in any pain and used it as chill out time before the madness! They broke my waters and after that it was just 2 hours before my little boy was born.

Because it happened so quickly after my waters broke, there wasn’t time for an epidural (a natural birth was what I had in mind before all this!) . Contractions were very intense straight away so I would strongly consider an epidural.

I did end up with an episiotomy and a tear but the repair job was perfect and no pain or issues afterwards.

I found the whole induction process absolutely fine and if it was recommended again i wouldn’t hesitate.

Good luck and you’ll get to meet your baby soon, exciting!

I was induced at 38+5 due to low volume of waters.

I had a sweep on Thursday evening as they were going to induce me the following Tuesday and they told me a sweep would make me more favourable for induction. Friday night I lost my mucus plug, Sunday afternoon my waters went.

Labour didn’t start so I was then induced on the Monday (day before scheduled) as it had been 24 hours since my waters went.

Had the pessary at 12, laid down for half an hour to let it start working, went walking round the Hospital, baby born at 5.33pm with just gas and air and a tens machine.

It was very painful (went from 4cm to ten in less than two minutes. Midwife checked me, was only 4cm so she ran off to get me pethadine as I said I couldn’t cope, ran back in two mins later and I was needing to push. Agony!) but I managed, had no further interventions, slight graze, out the next day. Baby was a little jaundiced but didn’t need treatment for it.

Sorry, I was meant to be induced for low volume of waters, ended up being induced due to PROM!

I was induced at 37 weeks due to premature rupture of memranes at 35w, without going into labour.

The experience wasn't great, but mainly due to some mishandling of the induction process. 4 years later, I went back to the hospital for a discussion with the head midwife and she agreed it was mishandled. They basically should have given a lower dose of pessary as I went from nothing to contractions every few minutes, all of a sudden.

As a result, I couldn't cope, so had an epidural, which slowed my labour and led to forceps and an episiotomy. I found the whole thing rather traumatic.

Not trying to scare you, but telling you this so that you can ask questions about the induction process and see how they plan to handle it to make your comfort a priority (as well as baby's safety of course).

I know of lots of people who were induced, without it leading to a caesarean. Good luck xx

I was induced at 36 weeks because the placenta stopped working. I had 2 pessaries and the drip. It took 4 days but once the drip was in baby was out very fast. No pain relief required only has and air for the stitches.

The worst bit is all the waiting round for something to happen.

I was induced at 38 weeks. Took about six hours, ventouse delivery. 'Baby' now 12 and mostly lovely!

I was induced at 36 weeks due to sudden pre eclampsia that was misdiagnosed (actually had it a while but went Unoticed by midwife)

My wee boy came out a perfect wee thing at 6lbs 10 and is now 5 months old and thriving !

Good luck
