Post labour blood loss

I had to give birth to my precious little boy at 16 weeks two weeks ago. My bleeding has been pretty heavy since but I thought the last couple of days it was starting to tail off. This morning I am passing huge clots and bleeding quite heavily. Not sure if this is normal? I really don't want to go back to the hospital as I'm having a hard time coming to terms with things anyway. Any advice?

GP? Or do you have a midwife unit that you can call for advice?

Sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss.

Heavy bleeding is subjective so I would seek medical advice just to be sure, understandably that's difficult right now. However, if the clots are no bigger than the palm of your hand and are passed after you have been sitting or lying for a period of time then you may be ok. I had a similar experience & my midwife said that the blood pools when you lie down, and clots inside. If its happening frequently then I would definitely seek help.

Palm of your hand??

That's huge - I wouldn't want there to be any clots bigger than a 50p coin, especially not at 2 weeks. Heavy bleeding at this point (especially if it tailed off and re-started) is usually due to a bit of placenta being stuck inside. I assume the hospital doesn't hold happy memories for you right now, but you need to go there (not your GP) to be assessed and treated Flowers

Only passing on the advice I was given, but I'm not a HCP so don't take me as gospel. I did pass clots that big though Envy

Thanks everyone. I have called MAU and they have told me to go in.

I had a tfmr and had a huge blood loss after the bleeding stopped - rang the unit and was sent to a and e. I had retained product which thankfully passed on its own but I needed a scan to check it had cleared. Hope all is well with you. It’s awful to have to have more investigations after a tough time x
