Hypnobirthing?

littlebid · 06/01/2018 17:24

After a fairly traumatic labour with my first, ending in an emcs, I want to try hypnobirthing with number 2...does anyone have any tips for books / apps / websites which they’ve found useful. I’m not sure where to start!

Thanks :-)

Also following, as I am also on No2 and do not want a repeat of the first. Curious to hear any good things about hypnobirthing.

I have one DD and paid a lot of money for a Hypno birthing course. I would say I didn't have fantastic results during labour due to complications but I did find it helpful to stop me stressing about the labour during the few weeks prior to giving birth. They teach you some great calming techniques and breathing techniques which also helped me sleep in my heavy waddling stages of pregnancy.

In theory I believe Hypno birthing is a fantastic tool if you are lucky and have a text book labour but if you don't I find it hard to see how it slots in. I am sure there are 100s of positive stories though.

If you sign up for a course they should provide you with a book and audio files to listen to as part of the course so you shouldn't need to spend any additional money.

What I have taken away from the experience is to try and question medical staff that want to speed the process up as the more intervention you and your baby receive the more likely you are to have problems and therefore more likely to have medication/pain relief. For example even starting from your 40wk midwife appt they normally give you a sweep as norm but if you are not high risk etc why is this needed?

Currently TTC and I won't be going down this road again but I would question if I needed to be induced as soon as I was before or if I needed to have 3 sweeps in one weekAngry

I 100% agree with homeboddy42 too.

I wish for my first birth I questioned more and went with my gut instincts. My hypno birthing class was great in starting me to think that way but overall I didn't find that helpful after it was all over with all intervention I received.
It did help with the lead up to the birth and ease some anxiety.

My big thing was that even though I attended the classes with my husband- on the day he wasn't enforcing the methods we had been taught. He really needed to do the "practicing of the cds" more. I also found I'm not naturally good at meditation so I could never practice the whole cd as I would become irritated with their voice or other things.
My 2nd birth was so fast I had NO-time to calm myself down.
Hopefully the 3rd- my hypno birthday practice helps... it can't hurt to go into without fear and I've had the husband practising from the beginning.

Have a look at mindful mammas. There are one day courses nationally but you can buy a book and I think some downloads online without attending. I found it excellent!

The book was good and helped me be very relaxed before and during a long labour. I like visualisation exercises. Sadly for dc2 I had a terrible cold, which meant breathing slowly didn't work at all.

Try the positive birth company! Just finished doing there online hypnobirthing course for £35 and think it’s fantastic. It’s my first baby and now opting for a natural home waterbirth 😊

Loved mine! I had a bit of a stressful EMCS first time around and was worried about the VBAC, DH and I did a weekend away course (was also a bit of a babymoon, as was our first child free night in 2 years!) and even though some of it veered from meditative to hippy to frankly loopy, we had a good giggle, did the exercises and on the day it really really helped. Even if I'd had a section again, I think I would have been in a much more positive frame of mind, so definitely worth it.
