2nd Csection?

HelloSmile
Just found out I am having another baby approx due 13th sept 2018.
Currently have a lb who is almost 9 months.
I had an emergency csection the first time and will be having another csection. My question is has anybody had a normal csection and an emergency? How was your pain afterwards comparing the two? I know I’ll be in a considerable amount of pain after but I’m just hoping it won’t be as bad as the first time!! I couldn’t move for 2 weeks (the surgeon was literally jumping on my stomach to pull him out) it was horrible! I’m scared that I’m not going to be able to move at all again and not be able to see to my older child.. I know I’ll have to take it easy but I’m hoping the pain isn’t as bad!

Any advice is greatly appreciated Smile Smile

I've had two c-sections and am currently pregnant with my third. Generally, people say they recovered better with a planned one than they did with the emergency one. I'm going to be honest with you and say I think my planned one was worse. I was so anxious just before and during as I knew exactly what was going on. With my Emergency one I'd been labouring for so long and was so high on gas and air I was just like 'get the baby out'. I remember thinking after my second 'ouch I don't remember it being this painful. Having said that I recovered quite well from both quickly and have had no long term problems. I am now pregnant with DC3 and am shitting myself. Sorry I'm not being very reassuring am I? X

Haha thankyou! I’d rather the honesty! I was the same with my emergency I didn’t have a clue what was going on! But I know I’ll be aware of everything this time. Is the epidural procedure the same? Dreading that lol

Im 3 weeks into having my 2nd c-section, my 1st was an emergency and my 2nd was planned but my waters broke 2 days before my planned section so they have classed me as an emergency. Waiting to go into theatre was the worst part for me and i found it very tearful as i knew i was going to be in a lot of pain after. I'm still recovering now but been off the painkillers for a week now and i feel so much better than the 1st section as I'd had a very long labour and never recovered from the exhaustion. Ive defiantly taken it easy this time round than the last as i know my body needs the recovery and that when my DP went back to work i have a baby and toddler to look after.

It's not something you can predict. I've had two emcs (one crash, one less of an emergency but still following a 38hr labour). Recovery was easy for both. No painkillers, discharged after 12hrs with one and 24hrs with the other, never struggled. My friend has had one emcs and one elective. She bounced back after the emergency but struggled for weeks after the elective and was in a lot of pain.

I had an emergency with my first and planned cs with my second. The planned cs was so much easier to cope with. Planned cs was easier because

  • able to prepare mentally and get a good night's sleep first.
-expected the pain for the first couple of days but knew it would soon pass. -made sure I stayed in my pj's and rested far far more than after my emergency cs. Spent the best part of two weeks in pj's. Minimal visitors. -remembered to take my pain relief on time second time around.

I've had four sections, one was emergency the others planned. Each experience was different, I felt ok after the emergency and the first planned, but with the next planned one I felt a lot of pain after and they kept my catheter in for 48 hours to rest my bladder. My scar became slightly infected after going home and I developed lumps under my scar that I was told were pockets of blood which would eventually drain by themselves, and they did. My fourth c section 14 weeks ago was very straight forward and went smoothly, but I did feel more pain in the recovery than with the others. Probably because I've had the scar opened four times. But overall my recovery with all my sections has been complete within a few weeks.

Epidural procedure the same as far as I can remember. I just love the anaesthetists in hospitals though I just think they are the nicest drs in the whole hospital.

I've had 1 emergency and 1 planned. recovery was similar for both - horrible first week and then ok.
but I have to say, for the actual operations themselves, the emergency was much easier than the planned, even though the EMCS was at the end of a very long labour with a very stuck baby.
My planned CS was because DS was an unstable lie and was spinning around right up to going to theatre!! he seemed to move again basically as they were getting started and he got a bit stuck and they really had to drag him out, DH was watching and for ages all they had out was 1 leg!!! and then I had a big PPH, don't know if that was related to DS's movements or not though.
sorry i'm not being very reassuring but I think each CS is different, but at least you can prepare yourself mentally now. good luck!

I had an emergency csection with my first, and a planned one for my second.

My emergency one hurt so bad and took so long to recover from.
I was so scared when I was going into theater with my second,I was imagining all the pain I was in with my first,I was inconsolable/in tears.

But actually,as soon as they started to do the section,I was so surprised.
It was a lot calmer and relaxed.i could feel the difference when they were doing the cut.it didn’t hurt half as much as my first, and I had no infections (I did with my first) and I recovered a lot quicker than with my first.

Please try not to worry.in my experience a planned csection is far better than an emergency one.Flowers
