Any other way of telling if waters have gone other than speculum?

I woke in the night with a tablespoon or so of liquid drip out. Sorry TMI!

I put on a pad and went back to sleep assuming more would come but it hasn’t.

I phoned the hospital and they’ve said to see what happens in the next hour or so and call back. I asked how they’d know if I’ve lost waters if I haven’t got any on my pad and they said they’d do a speculum.

I really don’t want one. They were the worst part of having DS, which were pointless anyway as I ended up with a section, this one is going to be a section too, booked for 4th jan.

I know if it is my waters there’s an infection risk so I need to get checked out but is a speculum the only way if nothing leaks onto my pad?

They can do a test with the waters, like a pregnancy test which tells you if it's amniotic fluid or not. It's non invasive. I had it when mine went - good luck!

Thanks for your reply NEmum.
I haven’t got any waters to show them, as nothing has leaked onto my pad since putting it on. So I assume that won’t be possible unless I leak anything else before I have to go in?

Ah sorry I get what you mean...hopefully you will pass some more soon/on the way to the hospital. Good luck

I’ve called and spoke to a different midwife who has said because I haven’t leaked anything else since 4am she’s confident it’s not my waters so no need to go in.

It doesn’t sound like your waters tbh but keep an eye on yourself re infection. Hind waters can go, baby moves & waters stop leaking. But if there is a break in the sac there is a (very small) chance of infection. If you have a raised temperature contact your hospital. Good luck!
