Anterior low placenta. Come and tell me your birth experiences please

Hi ladies I just need to know how birth went for you please.

When I had my 12 weeks scan I was told my placenta was anterior. Today I had my 20 weeks scan and I was told it is also low although not covering my cervix completely. I had an emergency c-section with DD 9 years ago and I was hoping for a water birth this time as I didn't get a chance with DD.

I believe that I have higher chances to have another c-section as a result of the position of my placenta. This will be ok with us as we just want this little one safe and healthy. I was just wondering how other women's birth went in similar situation.

Thank you for your help Smile

I’m 37w now so haven’t given birth yet. At my 20w scan I was told my placenta was low anterior but also completely covering my cervix. I had another scan at 31w and my placenta had moved and was no longer low lying. At the moment I am low risk so I’m planning on using the pool in my local MLU.

Have you spoken to your Midwife? Have they booked you in for another scan?

I haven't spoken with my midwife, I will see her at the end of January for my next visit. However I have been given another appointment for a scan in 8 weeks time.

It would be lovely if it moves so I can have a vbac although an elcs wouldn't be negative as at least we would know the day the baby is born and we could arrange childcare for DD Smile

I had this with dd2 after an emcs with dd1. My placenta did move and I did labour and attempt a vbac. Unfortunately dd2 also got stuck due to her head position so another emcs for me, but more chilled than the first as they were ready for it.

Thank you 123bananas. It is good to know that. I feel more positive that a vbac is a possibility even after an emcs. What do you mean with they were ready for an emcs? Did you have to be monitored while in labour? I would like to try for a water birth and do not really want to be stuck in bed being monitor to be honest.

I had this at 20 weeks. Extra scan at 36 weeks and it had moved and all happened naturally after. No c section required

My trust would not let me vbac in the birth centre. I refused continuous monitoring at first hereagain, as is your right. Tbh I was 10cm and pushing by the time I arrived (labouring at home with just a tens machine, but progressed rapidly after waters broke in the car on way in, so transferred to ambulance) however, it became clear with the doppler that dd2 was dropping her heart rate during contractions so a clip to monitor her was attached to her scalp. They tried ventouse in theatre, as being a vbac they have a heightened awareness that there may be complications. She was stuck in such a way that they couldn't deliver her, widest part of head trying to come through narrowest part of pelvis and unable to rotate her with ventouse. Refused forceps after experience with dd1, but she was too high anyway.
