Stupid question...

My waters have just gone, tiny contraction pain before hand, nothing since.

Do I need to phone the labour ward yet? Or can I just go back to sleep?

Phone the hospital. When my waters broke early I was kept in due to increased risk if infection, went into labour 48 hours later. They will advise on best course of action depending on your own circumstances.

Yes give them a call just so they know to expect you in a bit later. I found it reassuring to speak to someone too and they're happy for you to call! Hope you have a speedy labour and see your baby soon!

SparklingSnowfall · 20/12/2017 07:08

I'd go back to sleep for a bit if you can, once you're contractions become more regular/a bit stronger give them a call and they'll tell you what to do. How exciting! Do let us know how you get on!

SparklingSnowfall · 20/12/2017 07:09

Ah, maybe call and then sleep if you can!

BabyOrSanta · 20/12/2017 07:11

I knew that pizza was good last night!

Thank you and I will Grin

I’d get some sleep. If you call it’s likely they’ll advise you come in. I called when it happened to me - they said I had to come in for a check. If it happened again I’d get sleep before calling as I didn’t sleep again for about 40 hrs later!!

StripyDeckchair · 20/12/2017 07:13

I was told no need to call with early labour pains only but yes, call, if you think your waters have gone at any point. They'll want to ask you a few questions at least and may want you to come in to get checked over.

It's a pain (not very literally) as I also seem to have developed a cough overnight so it's spurting... urgh

I had to go in when mine went as they wanted to check the fluid was clear. Once they'd done that, they sent me home again until labour kicked in, or until 24 hours were up, whichever happened first. After 24 hours, the risk of infection kicks in and they start induction proceedings if nothing is happening naturally.

BabyOrSanta · 20/12/2017 07:28

That's the only reason I was thinking, the waters seem clear but you never know, I may have water eyes (like line eyes...)

I called, they said to stay home for an hour then go in. Apparently there must have been something in the water last night as they're rammed with waters-breaking-ladies so if I could wait an hour that would give them some time to do shift change and get rid of some of the backlog.

Looks like Baby will be here before Santa after all!

Exciting! Good luck. Hope it's all straightforward for you.

BabyOrSanta · 20/12/2017 08:01

Thank you Smile

I'm hoping it goes well... it'll all be over by Xmas, right?

OP posts:
askjeeves · 20/12/2017 09:23

Yes! And now you'll be able to have fizz and smelly cheese on Christmas Day!

BabyOrSanta · 20/12/2017 09:31

I've been teetotal for years and years but really fancying an Amaretto and coke now!

When you go in they'll probably examine you to check your waters really have broken. I took my pad in to show them and thus avoided the examination. Might be worth doing the same if your waters broke gradually like mine.

How are you doing
