Desperate to induce labour -- help!!

user1500124076 · 18/12/2017 13:17

I need to know methods that worked for you to get labour going. I'm bloody desperate. Quick facts:

39 weeks, low risk preg

Severe SPD

Previous section 12 years ago

I can't cope with the SPD anymore. I haven't slept in weeks, the pain is constant, the support belts and "exercises" make everything worse. Hospital have a no induction policy unless you go 2 weeks over. No sweeps. Not even had a cervical check (I'm in Ireland btw - bit different here). I decided against elective section after the nightmare I had with the last one.

I need this baby out!! He's ready. I'm 39 weeks. He's fully developed. He's a good weight. It's time. But he's sat there all snug and tight with no apparent desire to get his butt in gear!

I've tried sex (ughhh), orgasms, bouncing my life away on the birth ball, walking/exercising/moving a lot as SPD permits... I don't really believe in the whole tea/pineapple/etc old wives' tales but hey, if they worked for you...

Help!!

Have you seen a consultant recently? Can you insist on seeing one? It seems very strange to have a no induction policy that doesn't take account of the severe SPD or other factors unique to you. However, given your previous history, that may hinder a decision to induce as there may be concerns about your scar. Would you think again about the possibility of an elective section?

Speak to a consultant about your own severe pain and the fact that you do not want to take any risks with your full term baby. Ask what the options are. Ask for a second opinion if your own severe pain is being disregarded.

Best wishes.

Oh and be sure to monitor your kick count very closely and report any concerns immediately.

Laine21 · 19/12/2017 00:16

laughter is the best medicine, no really. When I was pregnant with my first, I was fed up waiting, one night a good friend rang for a chat, we spent hours on the phone, and he made me laugh so much it hurt. A few hours later I went into labour. So do you know anyone who can make you laugh?

user1500124076 · 19/12/2017 00:33

Hi guys. I've had fortnightly consultant appointments since 20 weeks and everything has been covered and discussed. I'm not here to explain personal circumstances. Thank you for your concern but I'm just here to discuss methods of bringing on natural labour, so I'd rather not answer all the questions regarding anything but that. I'm a bit too private!

For all the suggestions -- thank you! I'll be working my way through them, trying everything I can. I got some strong, regular contractions this evening after an hour on the ball and thought for a minute that things might be starting. Alas! Nothing now except a wiggling baby picking a fight with all four corners.

Reflexology!

HappyAndRelaxed · 20/12/2017 10:24

How're you doing Op? Did your efforts pay off yet?

HappyAndRelaxed · 20/12/2017 10:29

FWIW I wasn't being nosy about the Consultant. On my first pregnancy, I thought they could speed things up. They checked my cervix and said I wasn't anywhere near. Apparently, I had a low 'Bishop Score'. It's how they decide if your cervix is favourable for a sweep.

user1500124076 · 21/12/2017 19:20

Nope, still pregnant! Angry Last night after sex I had some bad contractions through my back and hips, every 10 mins or so for most of the night. Convinced we were getting there! Then I fell asleep between contractions and woke up this morning with nothing. I've been glaring at my bump ever since.

Did they check your cervix at your last antenatal appointment. AFAIK it all depends on the condition of your cervix to see how near you are to being ready to go into labor. Probably best avoid if possible for next few days so you can be at home for Christmas.

WeShouldOpenABar · 22/12/2017 18:37

User I was same as you up to last week and in Ireland so I'd have been induced on the 24th apparently which made me Hmm
What worked in the end was I think the deep squats which I did around my spd by getting down on the ground first and raising myself into a squat with my elbows resting on a low coffee table behind me, I had done all the rest and I believe this was the trigger

doistayordoigo · 22/12/2017 19:07

My midwife suggested oral sex...apparently swallowing is what makes the difference Blush

NameChange30 · 22/12/2017 19:52

“My midwife suggested oral sex...apparently swallowing is what makes the difference”

This is a completed myth probably made up by a man. Sperm does contain hormones (prostaglandin) that help labour, but it needs to hit the cervix, not the stomach! So PIV sex is better if you can manage it.

Female orgasm is also very helpful as it releases oxytocin I believe Wink

NameChange30 · 22/12/2017 19:52

complete not completed

gamerpigeon · 22/12/2017 19:54

Nando's worked for me!

Bubblysqueak · 22/12/2017 19:59

I would try a bath with clary sage and then sniffing it from a tissue.
U was having irregular contractions which went away when I went to sleep (almost exactly the same as you Blush ) I had a bath with clary sage and was sniffing it which then helped labour kick in properly .

Well my due date has come and gone and here I am, still friggin' pregnant with no sign of that changing any time soon. Angry I need to avoid induction because of the risks with VBAC but I don't know how much longer I can go on atm. I have antenatal on Friday so we'll see.

Sex from behind
I had contractions IMMEDIATELY after all night
Couldn’t believe it

user1500124076 · 27/12/2017 18:35

I couldn't imagine anything worse than sex from behind right now lol. I don't even want him trying to hug me. In fact, I'd quite happily install him in a separate room where I don't have to look at him for a while. He still needs to make me tea though.

NameChange30 · 27/12/2017 18:38

It worked for me Blush
I didn’t feel like it either but I was desperate

GladysKnight · 27/12/2017 18:45

For me it was sex for dc1, and a VERY long walk (sorry) followed by a really funny tv show (laugh ing so much my waters broke) for dc2. But they were 11 and 5 days ago 'overdue' respectively Sad

MummyBearToOne1988 · 27/12/2017 20:16

Just had DS2 on Christmas Eve... 38+6 I was desperate to get him out at around 37/38 weeks... tried everything...

The thing that worked was telling my bump to stay put on 23rd in the morning as I didn't want a Christmas day baby/be in hospital and miss DS1's Christmas. Went to see Santa, out for lunch, feeling festive and boom... Labour commences (was still home in time for Christmas)

StylishDuck · 27/12/2017 23:45

It's probably a bit late for you OP but I found a chiropractor helped massively with my SPD. Mine was late onset (about 33 weeks) so I couldn't get a hospital physio appointment before my due date. I rang the chiropractor and she saw me the next day, I went from hobbling everywhere in a huge amount of pain to walking almost normally after one appointment. Worth considering maybe if you don't feel any twinges at the moment!

Best of luck with everything when it happens! I'm 39 weeks today so hoping I'll be getting some relief soon too.

ferriswheel · 27/12/2017 23:50

I feel your pain.i was 42 weeks with my three, honestly I think babies come when they're ready too.

user1500124076 · 29/12/2017 11:29

Booked in for induction/possible section next Friday, both of which I need to avoid due to the risks following a previous section. Argh.
