What do I need for a Home Birth and do I pack a hospital bag as well?

I'm 25 weeks and I've never had a home birth before. I've asked my MW for a home birth and she said it was okay just need to check at my 35 week scan that placenta has moved out the way, it's only alittle in the way so I'm very hopeful. I just would like to start planing now, with getting the house ready and 2 DS's to look after I have to forward plan. What do I need for a Home Birth and do I pack a hospital bag as well? even if placenta has moved?

I would pack a bag with just the bare essentials for the hospital, just in case you get transferred in a hurry: so one nightdress, some sanitary towels and a couple of knickers and bras, plus some nappies and one set of baby clothes. If you do end up in hospital, your dh can go to the shops or back home and get you more stuff if you need it.

We packed a hospital bag when I was in the early stages of labour. In terms of getting stuff in you need lots of towels and some grotty t-shirts & sheets that you don't mind getting covered in blood etc. We also got shower curtains from Ikea (a tip from MN) which only cost 99p but we used them to cover the matress I delivered on so very very usedful.

I wrote a step by step list of what to do & phone numbers we'd need etc when I went into labour for DH and it meant we didn't forget anything.

i had hosp bag packed ready - just in case of a transfer. there arelots of useful threads on here about what you will need for a hb - do a wee search.

get a mattress protector, best £2 i spent! if you have a wilko near you they do dust sheets for £1 and the mattress protector i just mentioned. i packed labour and hospital bag with everything in it i would have packed if i expected to go to hospital. if you buy new shampoo etc it will get used eventually and is much better than trying to give dh instructions if you do get transferred. it also means that everything you need is in the bag so you can just tell dh to bring the bag over if you want something
