Post c-section - does this all sound normal?

Had DS2 by c section 2 weeks ago today. Just wondering if the below is all sounding normal? I have googled but thought easiest just to ask on here. Was discharged from midwives today but, while lovely, they seemed more concerned about the baby rather than me and also I'm not sure any of the below was worth even mentioning to them, and if I did mention they said sounded normal.

  • getting up and about no problem now, hooray, don't think twice about getting up from a lying position for example.
  • not taking any pain relief, yay! but:
  • itchy incision area, smells a tad 'thrushy' - same smell as when I have vaginal thrush (sorry, tmi! I'm prone to it)
  • A few red, raised patches on incision - MW said it looks fine
  • stomach area above and below incision tender to the touch

I know it doesn't sound like anything to worry about but I'm just concerned because I used a cantesten pessary last week and have since realised I probably shouldn't have... could I have given myself a uterus infection? It was an ELCS so as far as I know I didn't dilate... Desperate to start using Canesflor (vaginal probiotics), as I mentioned I'm prone to thrush (8 years of it) and really want to get back on top of it. Anyone know at what point after a section it's OK to use pessaries?

The smell is a bit worrying, maybe see the doc?

Everything else sounds good

I had a c-sec, infection really started about 2 weeks after the birth. Main symptom stomach pain when pressed but not near the incision. Then I started with a temp... might be worth seeing the GP?

Hmm OK, I might keep an eye on the smell tomorrow and then get a GP appt for a nursery day this week if poss. Have been putting tea tree oil on it last couple of days.

talulah was it a womb infection or just of the incision area?

It's a tricky place for you to see fully so would be best to get someone to have a really good look.
In the meantime, use your shower head to thoroughly clean the area, loads of warm water on it, most importantly make sure it's 100% dry, allow it to air as much as poss, so if you are lying down, let it all hang out, uncover it. Use the cooler setting on your hairdryer to dry after the shower.

It's normal to be tender, it's probably still bruised, but tender and red, hot to touch is not normal, are you feeling well in yourself? Any temperature? Bowels normal? Eating and drinking ok? Weeing ok?

It's the overhang that makes it hard to keep dry (tmi!). If there's an infection, they'll give me antibiotics surely, which will make thrush worse? :( Blah sorry just thinking aloud. Never know when to use a GP appt or not.

Thank Jim -

"It's normal to be tender, it's probably still bruised, but tender and red, hot to touch is not normal, are you feeling well in yourself? Any temperature? Bowels normal? Eating and drinking ok? Weeing ok?"

Yes, all fine - the skin around the incision is not red, just the scar itself. Not hot, feeling well in myself, no temp, all else fine.

It doesn’t sound like my own experience so I’d be inclined to see the GP in your shoes.

Try a slim sanitary towel across the wound your overhang will hold it in place, thats how i managed to keep my incision clean and dry.

ShowOfHands · 20/11/2017 18:05

Worth getting a GP to have a look but with my second cs I did have some raised red areas and they were fine.

Don't dry your wound with a hairdryer (hairdryer are full of germs as they are dark, impossible to clean and heat up). Just pat dry or air dry.

Congratulations on your new baby.
