Induction?

Can I ask for your induction stories please.

When you had the induction to when you give birth. What typeof Induction? What pain relief?

I understand induction is supposed to be more painful!

I had a lovely induction 5y ago! 40+16. ARM and then straight to drip.

5h from drip to birth, no pain relief for labour. Was very relaxed and I’m glad I can put other women having inductions at ease - really may not be “worse” than any other birth!

So prefer pain relief as soon as drip goes in - that’s fine too!

Good luck!

Gel @ 8am
Waters broken @ 8pm
Totally knackered from contractions but not dilating - so and drip and epidural at 3am and DD was born at 3pm the following day. All good and would have an induction again with no fears.

My waters went at 39+2, after almost two days of contracting at home and still no baby I had to go in to start the induction.

Pessary used, drip put in. 12 hours later still only 2-3cms dilated so emergency c section it was!

My sister was induced as she went overdue and wound up in the exact same situation that I did.

Not sure it's more painful, just not guaranteed to work!

At 40 + 12, I just had water's broken. No gel or anything.
Then as I didn't want any drip to speed it up, wanted it as naturally as I could, I spent about hours marching up and down stairs to try to bring on labour.

It worked so I went in a bath and then gave birth around 12 hours after water breaking.

The others in the room who were induced the same time were shifted off to the Labour ward quicker but they all had drips too.

Started with pessaries at 2pm on Tuesday afternoon. Given them on 2 more occasions. Was only 2cm on Wednesday night so had waters broken at 10.30pm Wed night. Given an epidural as my blood pressure was going up. That was lovely - pretty sure I slept through contractions! Was 10cm by 7am on Thursday morning. So told to push, which I did for 3 hours. She was back to back and not for coming out so had forceps and an episiotomy, which was not lovely.

I doubt I would have got an epidural if I hadn’t been induced so that was a bonus. I do think though there are more interventions when being induced.

I loved my induction as it gave me a date and I could get more organised and prepared having a set date. Although I was 40 +10 when I was induced. Low risk pregnancy.

Friday morning 9am - arrived at the hospital and went on to the induction ward and was fortunate enough to be in my own room. I was given a sweep and gel put on my cervix. I had to lay in the bed for an hour and be monitored also.

12pm - very dull backache and we had a walk around the hospital and went down to the little greggs.

2-3pm - very agonising back pain so had a bath on the ward. I also started to bleed (losing my plug according to midwife)

6pm - given another sweep and more monitoring. Apparently having contractions that could be detected but not felt. 2cm dilated.

7pm - contractions hit hard!

12am - in a lot of pain and was given cocodamol and was 7cm dilated. It was then a mad dash to get me down onto delivery ward as they didn't expect me to be so far gone.

Not sure what happened in between lol. I used the pool but had to get out because I took the pethadine option (which in my opinion was hell!) gas and air was making me feel sick and lightheaded.

5am - waters were broken for me

I had the doctor come in, baby doctor (as baby was getting distressed) and about 3 midwifes. I had to be cut because I was struggling and forceps were getting prepped. However once I was cut I managed to give 3 really good pushes and he was out at 7.16am.

I was induced at 39 weeks with my first baby. When they examined me apparently my cervix was not open at all, so they told me that once the pessary was in it would probably take a while for anything to start moving. The pessary was inserted at 11am, me and my partner then decided to walk around hospital grounds and grab some lunch (I was feeling fine by then but had very mild period cramping). When we were back at the induction suite, at around 2pm the pains started to get worse but I thought it was just bad wind Blush then at around 3pm they were really strong and I knew they were contractions, but the midwife wouldn't examine me as they were busy and said they were "pre contractions".

I knew otherwise as the pain was intense, and I was begging for some pain relief so they administered some pethidine. Well, I don't know if it was the pethidine or what but about 10 minutes later I had my show and my waters broke, the midwife rushed in to examine me and looked shocked and said "we need to get you to Labour ward". At that point I wasn't aware but I was fully dilated and the head was coming out Confused it was all a bit of a commotion, but it all happened very fast and I was dazed because of the pethidine.

I was a bit of a rare case in that it happened very fast, but it can happen so I think you need to prepare for that eventuality. I did all my labouring in a shared induction suite with 6 other women and their families, I found it traumatic and embarrassing to say the least. I wish I'd have been more stern and demanded examinations. Having said that, I am pregnant with my second and I would still like to be induced this time round, I found being able to plan around the dates quite civilised! Smile good luck OP and sorry for the long post.

Thank you everyone. Today is the day. And you've put my mind at ease a little. Just wish I could sleep!! Wide awake as per usual!

Good luck!
I had an induction with my second, it was a good experience and I didn’t have any pain relief Smile

I just cannot wait to meet her now. I've had 5 x reduced movements and she's measuring large as well as my severe spd. Just can't wait to see her little face
