Now i've spoken to a couple of people who have agreed with me and i want to know if anyone else has this happen.

Once i had had my c-section the first night i had excruciating pain in my shoulder and chest, so much so that i thought i would stop breathing with the pain.

Did anyone else get this weird happening?

No. I've had two caesareans and never felt anything like it.

pucca · 08/04/2007 21:45

Nope, not me

Dottydot · 08/04/2007 21:46

No, sorry.

dressedupnowheretogo · 08/04/2007 21:47

i didnt have this

ChaCha · 08/04/2007 22:01

Hi Diddle,

I didn't experience that with either of my sections but I did experience it badly after both my laparoscopies - it was excruciating - i think it had something to do with the gas used to inflate abdomen as Chipbutty has said. HTH xx

I ahd a Emergency C-section with ys, but nope, can't recall any pain of that sort!

poptot · 08/04/2007 22:09

Had it really badly with my first section on the table, thought I was going to die it was that bad. Phrenic nerve pathway and very common.

eidsvold · 09/04/2007 01:02

nope - had 3 sections and never had this.

Only thing I had was this time - terrible itching as spinal block wore off.

diddle · 09/04/2007 13:55

woohoo, thought i was going crazy. glad i'm not the only one.

me too; felt like i couldn't breathe. I thought it was something to do with the spinal anaesthetic.

ellieandhattie · 09/04/2007 18:38

No didnt have the pain but with dd2 has the intense itching that eidsvoid said, anetehisist (sp) said it can be because of a sall allergy to the spinal was very weird

manuka · 09/04/2007 18:39

I had a c section and didn't get that and I'll tell you what else I didnt get too- enough anaesthetic! Luckily it only wore off half way through so I could only feel the sewing up bit not the cutting bit. I'd say that was quite a painful experience!

Bucketsofdynomite · 09/04/2007 18:43

Sounds like referred pain. I had it in my hips when my catheter tube got a kink and the bag was full (shockingly understaffed hospital!) - I thought I must be having a twin they hadn't noticed earlier!
I also had a gassy bloated tummy, very painful combined with wound and breastfeeding afterpains. I always recommend peppermint teabags for anyone's labour kit, you never know if you'll end up with a CSection.

ProfYaffle · 09/04/2007 18:48

I've had 2 c/s and I didn't get it although I've heard of plenty who have.

zookeeper · 10/04/2007 13:00

manuka makes me wince to think of it!

bundle · 10/04/2007 13:02

no I didn't have that either. could it have been an embolism?

lemonaid · 10/04/2007 13:06

No, but did have the itching (anaesthetist said about 50-70% of women do get the itching) and the shakes.

BetsyBoop · 10/04/2007 21:08

didn't have it after my C/S, but had it after a laparoscopy, it's caused as Highlander described.

It can happen after any abdominal surgery
