Anyone had positive vaginal twin birth?

Have twins due in February, I would love to birth vaginally as I have done with DC1 and 2, but most people seem to be suggesting sections are the way forward, and all I have heard are horror stories of vaginal twin births from other parents! If you had a positive vaginal twin birth I would love to hear about it and if you have any advice/suggestions

I had a vaginal twin birth last year which was generally a very positive experience. My consultant would have been happy first me to have an elective c section so it was very much my choice.
I was induces at 37+1. I had a pessary at 4pm, waters went at midnight. I had an epidural when I got to 5cm and both were born by 10am. I was home the next day. Twin 1 was relatively easy, twin 2 didn't descend and was in a fout and hand first position so required some maneuvering. I think it was very close to being an emergency c section for twins 2 but the whole team were very calm and it was OK in the end.
Feel free to ask any questions and congratulations being a twin mum is amazing.

I had a vaginal birth with my two and even went to 39 +4 before I naturally went into labour. I had to really stand my ground with the doctors though, who were not all supportive. My main doctor was supportive though, and I was monitored every other day towards the end and everything looked fine. There is no research to say that it is safer to be induced or schedule c section at 37 weeks, but this is how most hospitals prefer it. I'm surprised they have a preference of c section over vaginal, are they saying this at the hospital? I can't see any reason why. There was so much staff around once I was ready to push (ok this was 10 hours, a shot of oxytocin and an epidural later), every thinkable health care professional, paediatrician, you name it times two!!! They are really careful and know what to do exactly. In the end there was not much need for all these people though, twin 2 just needed holding in place by the midwife for a little while and then came out w no problem.

If you want a vaginal birth, you should definitely aim for that, there are lots of positive stories out there. I did my own fair bit of googling beforehand so that's how I know!! Good luck!!! V exciting Smile

My friend had a vaginal twin birth, went to just over 40 weeks iirc. Wasn't even a suggestion that a section was an option unless there was a very good reason. This was a long time ago, maybe things have changed.

No experience yet but I'm interested so following!

I'm due twins in march, I've had 3 straight forward vaginal births so very keen to deliver naturally too

Yes. Induced at 37 weeks 3 days, epidural once on oxytocin drip (from bitter experience with first child), lovely relaxed birthing experience except first baby got his head stuck and there was talk of forceps and possible section - but I wasn't phased because epidural already in place so I wouldn't have needed a general anaesthetic - but a competent doctor managed to turn the head and motivate me to push him out. Second twin came 9 minutes later after they broke the waters. It was fine, they were fine, I was fine. It healed the trauma of my first birth.

My twins are due in December.

When you have your first
appointment with the obs team you may be surprised. My trust are really in favour of vaginal birth for DCDA twins with no complications, especially if you've had a previous vaginal birth and T1 is head down. The registrar I saw said they would even consider vaginal delivery if T1 was breech.

My MW has also been supportive and said if I felt I was being railroaded into a super-medicalised birth she would ask the the consultant MW to intervene and we could come up with a birth plan together that allowed everyone to feel comfortable.

There's a poster from a few years ago who posted her birth plan and story which was quite inspiring. Will see if I can hunt it out for you.

I had a good vaginal birth with my mcda twins a couple of years ago. I was induced at 36 weeks. I did have an early epidural as a just in case we need to whisk you into theatre. Two vaginal births previously and was keen not to be out of action with a csection if it was avoidable. DTD1 was well behaved, DTD2 was not for turning she'd been breech for months and was footling breech but it was all fine.
