Bloody show (I think) at 39 weeks - do I bother telling the midwives? Is labour imminent?

(Sorry, just reposting from Pregnancy as I think this topic is more appropriate)

Didn't have this with my first, so not sure what to do! I've had some light bleeding since having sex this morning. It's pinkish red and with some tiny clots.

After googling I think it must be a 'bloody show'. Should I check with the midwife or not bother them with it?

I'm really hoping labour isn't very imminent. I'll be home birthing, and I'm just trying to get over a cold, take care of my 4 year old who has a fever, and avoid a Jewish holiday (Rosh Hashanah) which starts tomorrow, and during which my favourite midwife isn't available to come out to me :-(

(In your experience, is labour imminent? No other signs except a feeling of heaviness)

You can have a 'show' or lose your mucus plug and not be anywhere near labour there is no way of knowing.

I would call the midwife with any bleeding though as you just can't be too careful.

Thank you rocketbuddies

I did give them a call but they aren't concerned as long as it is light bleeding, which it still is, and if I'm not having contractions.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens...

Very important you monitor movements at this stage. There is no such thing as slowing down towards the end. So as long as baby is moving as usual and the bleeding doesn't get heavier it's just a case of waiting it out. Good luck.

Thanks lightcola

I am still getting lots of movement, so that's good...

Hi ShiveryTimbers,

I had a bloody show 4 days before my waters broke. I also had no other symptoms.
Good luck 😀

SprogletsMum · 24/09/2017 20:17

I had pinkish blood with clots and a heavy feeling about 7 hours before my waters went.
Good luck opFlowers

My show started about two weeks before my waters broke (second time, I didn't have one at all). I'm not sure it's much indication for anything (except that you must be nearly at the end!)

SprogletsMum · 26/09/2017 22:39

Any news op?

ShiveryTimbers · 28/09/2017 00:00

Sorry for not having updated! I started having contractions on Saturday the 23rd, and went into labour properly late that night. Gave birth a couple of hours late in the wee hours of Sunday 24th!

So, it took another 4-5 days after this event until I had the baby. I took it really easy though because I wanted to wait as long as possible :-)

Congratulations, hope you managed to snaffle your favourite midwife 😊

ShiveryTimbers · 28/09/2017 09:21

Thank you... I did! We cleared the fevers/colds and got the lovely midwife. Which made all the difference and it was an absolutely brilliant birth at home in a birth pool in the kitchen :-D
