No, no one can force you to do anything.

MamaDeeGee · 13/09/2017 16:40

Thank you! Been waiting 6 hours for a call back off my consultant to sort out what is happening and how long i may be waiting! X

I got to 42+1 with three says of failed induction (2 pessaries and gel) and then went to c-section. Was I forced? I may I've been encouraged if I had said no, but by that point I needed the baby out of me and I felt he and I were going to face harm if it didn't happen.

As PP said, you can't be forced, but there are increased risks as each day goes past and you need to be comfortable with the decision you make.

MamaDeeGee · 13/09/2017 20:01

Its not failed induction for me they just keep saying busy and im not top of list; i wouldnt mind so much if theyd tried but they havent even done that ( i just need a bed to have my waters broke )

Im only 37+ 3 but its twins so was suppose to have delivered by 17th and if they dont call me in until then i will be extremely annoyed as i feel my options are been taken away.

Im annoyed also as ive phoned to ask these questions 4 times today to my midwife and hosp and they both said will call back soon and each time had nothing

No they can't force you to do anything. It's a pity they are so busy.

They won't be able to break your waters if you are not yet 4cm dilated. You will first need to be dilated using a hormone pessary. I was induced and the pessary was in for 24hrs but labour started within 12hrs. By the time the pessary was taken out I was 4cm and contractions were 3 in 10mins so I was moved to delivery suite and only then were my waters broken.

In the end I had to have an emergency c section after 12hrs in the delibery suite and being fully dilated... baby got stuck because of the head position and he was going into distress.... so you could still end up with a section either way so make sure you are prepared for this possibility especially with twins I
imagine...
Good luck Flowers
Come back and let us know how it all goes?

You don't even have to be induced if you don't want to. Nobody can force you to do anything. Chances are it will all start naturally very soon.
You should listen to the information and ask questions about your specific risks and the benefits of induction or section to you personally rather than in general. They can check to make sure the placenta is still functioning OK if you'd rather hold on for a natural start.
Mine were all over 42 weeks apart from the twins.

I was 41+6 days and my baby was a big size8lb 9oz so they sent me in to be induced my waters then broke but they left me 36 hours going through labour pains before they then told me it's been too long with nothing happening so there was risk of infection I was in so much pain I was laughing and smiling going for the section trust me at this point you will just be happy to have your babies they can't force you to have a section but it's not the end of the world if you do.

DartmoorDoughnut · 15/09/2017 08:56

They broke my waters and I wasn't dilated at all contrary to what a previous poster has said.

I had an induction that ended in an EMCS and an ELCS the next time. Recovery for elective was better as I wasn't shattered after 3 days of labour.

Good luck!

1stTimeRounder · 15/09/2017 09:08

@Dartmoor I'm interested how do they break waters if your cervix is not open at all, like physically how do they do it? Confused
Where I gave birth (Kingston hospital) they wont/don't break them until you are in established labour / @4cm
There was a woman being induced on the same ward as me who was only 2cm dilated with strong contractions begging very loudly for them to break her waters but they said they couldn't as she wasn't 4cm yet so they said they weren't actually able to reach them...

Maybe it's different in other hospitals?

DartmoorDoughnut · 15/09/2017 10:52

They stuck what looked like a knitting needle thing up there. They told me I wasn't dilated at all. I'll take their word for it! It was just a tad painful.

MamaDeeGee · 16/09/2017 09:52

See i was 1-2cm (previous pregnancy so will never be non) and instead of going to antenatal ward to be induced with pessary they were just going to break my waters on labour ward and if labour didnt start afterwards give me the drip that makes you contract... while awaiting that i went into natural labour 😆 both boys born 15.09.17 at a overly healthy 6lb 4oz and 6lb 11oz!

They can reach the waters aslong as your dilated some places choose not to til 4cm because that causes pressure due to baby sitting right on cervix instead and can be horribly painful for a long long time if not in established labour tet

Congrats!! Wow that's great weights for twins. So glad it all went well.
Interesting to know that you would be a bit dilated because of previous pregnancy. Everyday is a school day!

Enjoy your little ones Flowers

C-section is never mandatory. But it's a very civilised way to have a baby and having had both I'd take it over induction any day! recovery much quicker.

MamaDeeGee · 19/09/2017 12:33

I wasnt been induced as such i was just having my waters broken and needed the drip regardless for when they had to bring on baby 2 to make sure i stayed contracting :3
