How did you get to hospital if DP doesn't drive?

Just that really, DP can't drive for medical reasons and I'm assuming I won't be capable either... Will a taxi take us? Should I get some puppy pads?

I got my mum to take me. But then she was my birthing partner rather than DH, who is hospital phobic.

Taxi will take you.

My waters had gone, I waddled to the taxi with a bath towel between my legs!! I was stil gushing but found sitting in the taxi they slowed and the towel was sufficient. Was 35 weeks so not really preapred so didnt have any pds but i would get some to be on the safe side (and a big bath towel!)

Some people's waters don't go til quite far in wheras mine was the absolute first sign

We got a taxi with DS1 and with DS2 our next door neighbour offered to take us (even though she had a brand-new car Grin )

Taxi here. We rang round a few at about 30 weeks just to check if they would take the booking.

Dd1 went in a taxi, but got sent home in a taxi, as not far enough along then had to call an ambulance for the next time as no taxis available in rush hour to take me. Had discussed need for taxi in labour with local taxi firm first and they had agreed to take me if taxi available.

Dd2 tried to go in my mum's car, but my waters broke and contractions went back to back and I couldn't get in the car , so an ambulance was called. Was fully dilated and pushing on arrival.

I had bed mats and towels for the taxi.

Crispsheets · 10/09/2017 21:38

I went on.my own in a taxi at 5am.

Lj8893 · 10/09/2017 21:43

Mil took us. But we would have had plenty of other options to take us if she wasent available.

RandomMess · 10/09/2017 21:43

Very common in London to not own a car and use a taxi instead!

WindyScales · 10/09/2017 21:46

Taxi. I called the company before I went into labour to check with them as I'd heard not all companies will do this. They said as long as it wasn't an emergency they were happy to take me.

First time I drove myself as it was 9.30pm in New Year's Eve and dh was driving back from work an hour away, no neighbours were around and I was bleeding heavily and cramping at 32 weeks. Not sure that was the best idea I've ever had though so probably not ideal!

Taxi will be fine. You could ring round a few local firms in advance to see if they'll put you on some sort of priority list if you go into labour!

Our hospital is only a few streets away and we walked...twice, in fact! (Stupid long labour.) Hobbled is probably a more accurate word.
