Induction of labour

Hello everyone
I wonder if you could help me out. I am a midwife looking at the opinions of women who have chosen induction of labour. No judgement here, I am genuinely interested in your choice and reasons! I wonder if you could let me know if you asked for induction of labour. If so, were you given induction of labour? Are you now happy with the choice you made, or do you feel that you should have been allowed induction of labour (if they said no) or if you were offered induction, do you wish you had waited? Does the outcome of the birth affect your opinion of the process and your experiences. Thank you all.

I booked an induction for 40+2 with dc2. This was due to loosing DC1 neonatally. Was not willing to wait longer than that. As it was dc2 arrived on time so was not needed. Currently pregnant with dc3 and will book an induction for the same. Hopefully again it will not be required but need an end date.

I had two inductions at 40+10 just due to being overdue. My first was horrific - I reacted to the drip and had hyperstimulated contractions with no adequate pain relief and ended up with a massive tear. The ferocity of the contractions severely traumatised me and contributed to PND which was probably a form of PTSD with hindsight.

For my second induction I refused the drip and luckily with a pessary I went into labour fine and had a very straightforward birth.

I would never never now recommend induction with a drip. It is brutal. In my first labour the hyperstimulated contractions affected my baby's hear rate and the doctors were concerned about how it was dipping. He emerged with the cord twice round his neck so I feel we were lucky the experience ended with a healthy baby. He has ASD and I sometimes wonder if his very difficult birth and lack of oxygen during delivery contributed to this in any way. Who knows.

I was offered an induction initially due to low water volume but then actually was induced a day earlier than scheduled because of PROM. I would do it again if needed as labour happened very quickly 4.5 hours from pessary to baby, no issues with the actual process but it was more painful than my previous natural labour and the midwives didn't believe me when I told them how painful it was (went from 4cm to 10 in less than a minute). I had the pessary only didn't need a drip.

Was induced DC2 & DC1 as overdue at hospital insistence. With DC2 I was 17 days over!!!

DC3 I asked to be induced on due date and had to fight for it (DC2 was 10lb 6oz and I wasn't in a good place mentally and I wanted her born Aug not Sept).

DC4 I booked in for induction at 42 weeks rather than their preferred 41 weeks because DC3 was a struggle to her labour started.

Would have loved a home birth or even just spontaneous labour but just didn't happen.

I just had pessaries and with DC1 and DC3 ARM.

Straightforward deliveries no tears, no assistance!
