Do your stomach muscles ever recover from a c-section?

Doing some positions in yoga the last couple of weeks (nothing weird!) and I could sort of feel something, well, unusual around my scar - like pulling or tension. Enough to make me stop in case I pulled or tore something.
It's been nearly 9 months now and wondered if this was normal? Does that area ever go back to how it used to be?
I asked my HV about this, who was predictably vague.

I had two cs and my stomach muscles have never recovered..however I have never really kept up doing stomach exercises.

I had a CS over 10 years ago. It is still slightly numb and it is slightly ridged - not on the skin but sort of internally, if that makes any sense. The muscles are still a little delicate too. Oh, and my tummy isn't flat but I have had 3 more babies since then

Thinking oud loud here - it might be worth getting a yoga in pregnancy book, and working through it backwards: the exercises that are OK during the last trimester of pregnancy put the least strain on the abdomen. When you're comfortable with those exercises, move on the 2nd trimester ones, then the first trimester ones, and then into yoga for all.

I had c/s 18 months ago and my tummy is nice and flat but I do feel that I need to work on my muscles. They do cut through a main set of muscles, the ones that keep you upright and support your back but they will mend. I used to do athletics before I had my dd and my trainer said that the muscles, with some work, should go back to it's former strength. He suggested Pilates and, after worrying that it would be really boring, I have to say that I love it. It doesn't feel strenuous at the time your are doing it but after a session I can feel muscles I didn't know I had. Brilliant. I can highly highly recommend it.

However, I would go and see your gp and hv and ask them to send you to a physiotherapist as they can properly assess you and then also advise you on the right excercises to take.

Good Luck !!!

The over-hang I believe has nothing to do with the muscles but the amount of - don't shoot me - excess skin and fat on your belly. So, the only way to get rid of that is to loose weight. As I said I had a c/s but never an overhang as I was very fit and lean before I got pregnant (not bragging just because I did competitive sports)however, I have to work to get my muscles back to strength.
