How does it feel when you suddenly don't have a baby in your tummy?

I know that sounds like a really weird question, but after carrying this LO around for 9 months I am wondering what it will feel like when suddenly there is this big empty space.

Also, just so I can get a sense of perspective, how long before your tummy 'goes down' and you no longer look pg?!

I know it's a strong word but I felt I was grieving for my bump, despite having a beautiful dd in my arms. The two relationships were very separate and the one with bump had come to such an abrupt end after months of total intimacy. Also felt phantom movements afterwards, though this could well have been bits moving back into place. I do remember being on the delivery trolley though, whilst dd was being cleaned up, and having a good old prod - was one of the weirdest things and just didn't feel like it was my body!!

I really missed my bump, despite having DTs to look after!

Wow, didn't think I get such a lot of responses! It's good to hear everyone's experiences. makes it just a little bit less scary if I know what to expect. Never heard of phantom movements after pg so glad I've been warned about those!

I woke up the next morning, and put my hand on my belly to feel her moving as i'd done everyone morning, and woke with a jolt when i realised she was in a cot next to me!

Phantom movements! How wierd, I definitely had those though I couldn't have said what they were til now.

I thought I was going to miss my bump as I loved being pregnant, but I was relieved to be able to move properly again, and being pregnant is nothing compared to finally meeting your babe

When I had my 4th DC I felt like that character from the film. (was is Death Becomes her sounds familiar)
This funny lady got shot through the stomach and got up and walked about with a big whole in her tummy. Its wasnt gross it was a comedy (no blood), it was like she had a window in her middle!

Anyway thats enough waffle

I still look pg almost 4 mths after lo was born. I must work at holding my stomach muscles in

I felt so strange after DS1, like it wasn't my body, just felt very wierd.
After DS2, felt fantastic, just so much more comfortable and less cumbersome.

I had my LO 6 weeks ago, and I miss my bump too. For the first few days I was too overwhelmed with meeting LO to notice,(and probably too drugged up as well after my cs)but later on I did miss having the big bumpy bit to pat. However, I reminded myself how little I miss the restless leg, the insomnia, the carpal tunnel, the heartburn, the inability to put my socks on, the swollen feet and legs, the SPD, the having to be helped in and out of the bath, etc etc etc... so I might miss my bump, but I don't miss being pregnant IYSWIM.

Exactly like Lizzielou - says it all for me!
