Does anyone out there please have any info or experience on self assessment of cervix??? Im 37wks pregnant.

lulumama · 23/03/2007 21:15

you can feel your own cervix by squatting down and having a rummage ! if you are already familiar with how your cervix feels, then that is a bonus. as your body prepares for childbirth, your cervix ripens and softens, and feels more like pursed lips, whereas before it is ripe, it feels like the end of our nose ! make sure your hands are clean and your nails are short.

thx! I started doing that a while back but i do use gloves and make sure (as best as i can that its all clean) when i started checking it felt like round but since few days ago it feels frayed not rounded anymore. i woke this morning feeling nauseas and bad period pain with heaviness. about 2 hours ago i had a very sharp pain in lower abdomen (ouch) not sure whats up thou, if anything. i had my other 2 children at 38wks.

Doulaklaw · 23/03/2007 21:31

you mean the one with the 'other' email address in it?

Yes I got it but have been a tad busy here myself as well as feeling a teensy bit sorry for myself so have not posted much for fear of depressing everyone...

Have felt ignored by others elsewhere, long story, so it was lovely to see such a nice 'YOO HOO'

Thanks!

lulumama · 23/03/2007 21:36

Hi Lulumama, don't know if I've been to a general chat place on Mumsnet yet, where is it, or am I being feeble? LOL

lulumama · 23/03/2007 21:50

when you click on ;active conversations; at the top of the page, it brings up a list of the 60 convos that are current and being posted on, so 'chat' is the general one

also you can click on topic list, and find each topic you like that way

morning all?? so i did the nipple stim and contractions started quite painfully on and off with no proper timings. that carried on till bout 3ish so decided to try sleep. did sleep but woke now and then with little less pain. woke this morning still got few little pains and some tightenings as well as feeling very heavy and sensitive down below. not sure what to make of it. haven't had a show or anything but still weeing alot. other then that i feel pretty happy. please tell me would the nip stim bring on contractions then go away or will it continue??? 2 b honest i feel so stupid really, is this all my imagination...i dunno!!!

lulumama · 24/03/2007 10:34

it can help bring things on, and get you prepared, sounds like your body is gearing up, so take it easy, listen to your body ! you might have a few days of this...your baby is nestling down into the pelvis, your uterus is stretching up and your cervix is starting to ripen...visualisation of what is happening to your body can be really useful, not simply to relax you, but to get into a positive frame of mind for the birth !
