I am going to be working with (doula) a lady pregnant with twins who had a c-section last time and would really like to have a vaginal delivery this time.

Has anyone had one? Did you find the hospital were opposed to it?

Any tips or advice for me so that I can be of best help to her?

Thanks!

Rebecca

This woman had an HBAC with twins, although she had previously had a hospital VBAC.

She might like to look at the yahoo vbac group too.

She had a section last time as the baby was breech, they attempted to turn her which didnt work and then her foot was presenting so they insisted on a section.

Thanks for those links, I will check them out

custardo, even though yours wasnt a vbac i would be interested to hear any nuggets of wisdom you may have about delivering twins full stop. in fact about having twins full stop!

she is worried about the reality of having twins and is worried she wont cope so anything i can tell her would be a help

Pecka post on multiples and we'll share all our horror stories with you my DT1 was forceps delivery, DT2 dragged out by her feet not a pleaseant experience and not one I'd wish to repeat...

have much drugs. i had an epidural. nd watched telly for ages.

there were many doctors and nurses in the room. new doctors have to winess so many multiple births and so if you dont want alla nd sundry looking at your flange. you must say something to someone.

one baby was breech bu they managed to turn him - so its not a given even in labour.

they might whip the babies away for checking.

a higher possibility of one being in the scbu, a whole other set of problems then becuase its hard visiting a baby when you have one at home.

my best advice would be to try and get over your own glee in wanting to show off your great twins straight away.

if poss - remain calm and dont have visitors that day - and sleep. becuase if the hospital is anything like the one i was in. the babies stay with you not in a nursery, and therefore after a possible horrendous double birth - you can be completely fucked.

for you as a doula - i dont know how far after the birth your remit stretches, but my dd was in scbu for a urinary infection - only they didn;t call it that and i ended up crying to rhubarb when she visited me becuase i didn't know what was going on - so if shes not a forthright person it would be nice if tere was someone there to ask the obvious! sometimes your just too tired to just ask the bloody obvious.

she will need great childcare arrangements for the older one. mymum had my son and had him for a couple of days after.

also if there is a wider family childcare arrangements incase one comes home and one doesn't - to allow for visiting.

and finally - bollocks to the house. time with the babies is far more important.
