Has anyone been so caught short that they've had to take dc with them or just abandon them with anyone?!?

Yep, ds (2yrs) had to come to the dentist with me while I had a tooth fixed a couple of months ago (not ideal as I'm scared of the dentist and don't want dc picking up on that)

not really cought short but when I was in labour with ds2, DS1 was very nearly my birth partner....at 2yrs old!!!

I was on the floor, paramedics just arrived and Ds2 was appearing with Ds1 watching from the gory end....

OH I didn't realise this was a childbirth thread!
My friend had her baby on the landing at home, luckily her mum was with her and just managed to bung her dd round to the neighbours and get back in time to 'catch' the baby before the paramedics arrived!

having dreams that dd has to come with me (due saturday) or i have to adandon her at home. think its because i'm stressing about leaving her with our neighbours who she doesnt know very well. we've moved to singapore - 2 months ago, so no family or long term friends around to rely on. bit scary!

Had ds1 (18 mths at time) in delivery suite with me till 45 mins before ds2 born. Had called my mum and dad to come up - they live an hour away but journey took 2 hrs 45mins cos there was a rolling stones concert on here in cardiff that evening so M4 at a standstill for last few miles. The midwifes were fine about it and helped keep him entertained - did say if i actually started delivering they'd get someone to take him out to waiting room while it happened. Thankfully never came to that as they just about made it!

oh blimey katylou. were you aware of him being there? did it make things worse. dd is 3 in may. she would be so aware of what was going on! thank goodness your parents made it in time.

we were away for the day as she was convinced the baby wasnt coming that day!!
then she started gettting labour pains so off to hospital it was, we ended up in slough and me and my sister sat in a family room type thing and were well looked after while mum gave birth and dad watched, my grandparents came down that evening and took us home (bout 3 hour round trip)
best bit was she had none of her notes or suitcase so had to buy clothes!

I'm panicing a bit that this might happen to us - inlaws have said they want to have ds when things kick off, only they won't come out if it's dark! Fortunately one of our neighbours has offered to have him overnight if necessary.

Egypt · 24/03/2007 06:25

oh dear lunarsea, thats not incredibly reassuring is it! was speaking to a woman yesterday who had pains in the night at 1am and baby was born by 230. luckily her inlaws made it just in time. she did get to hospital too. i hope i know whether i'm leaving it too late!
