Any stories of an easier second labour??

Due date is tomorrow for DC2. Had a fairly intervention heavy induction with DC2 at 40+4 and just hoping to hear about second labours happening naturally and hopefully being quicker and easier than the first?! I know you can't predict these things but it would be reassuring to read.

Second labour was a doddle. Less than two hours start to finish. Good luck!

BettyOBarley · 23/06/2017 20:57

Yes! Same as you I had a fairly unpleasant induction and 2nd degree tear / stitches with DD at 40+12.

DS came at 40+4. Contractions started at 3am, they were manageable and I stayed at home until 3pm. Got to hospital at 4pm and he was born at 4.45pm! Didn't have time for anything other than a quick puff of G+A. Very quick and straightforward, no tear (he was 9lb 1.5oz too!) and was home by 11pm.

First labour - two hours of pushing and tore quite badly.

Second one, I had a much better sense of confidence and listened to my body. Even when the midwife tried to get me in the pool, I refused as knew that dd was about to arrive. Pushed her out in 20 mins. I tore but nowhere near as badly and recovered incredibly quickly.

Good luck. Second labour much better. First was induction, slow and painful. Second late still but started naturally and ended in water birth. No stitches, no tearing and recovered really quickly :) hope all goes well

My second labour was fantastic!

I honestly enjoyed every minute and it was a doddle.

First labour induced at 42 weeks and took 2 days, epidural, drip, stitches, pph the works

Second labour at 37 weeks, 4 hours start to finish with an 8 minute second stage, gas and air (no time for anything else!) no stitches felt great as soon as he arrived! (Was a rough pregnancy!) absolutely no warning at all!

Cakescakescakes · 23/06/2017 21:12

Two inductions. First one was horrific with severe complications and long recovery. Second induction was a total piece of piss. Few puffs of gas and air and home couple of hours later. Couldn't believe the difference. Really gave me closure over first one.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 23/06/2017 21:30

Yes!
First labour - induced with the drip, just one long contraction for hours, failed epidural, traumatic pain, 3 hours of pushing, big tear, awake for about 3 days and nights. Awful experience.
Second labour - induced with the pessary, gentle contractions working slowly up, no pain relief needed or wanted - DS shot out like a bullet without a single push after about 5 hours. Absolute dream, quite a powerful experience in fact!

I would recommend the book by Juju Sunden, Australian physio, it's really good at getting your head around labour and birth.

I think my body just 'knew what to do' the second time round. Good luck!

Wallywobbles · 23/06/2017 21:30

Second fell out after 3 pushes.

Wingbing · 23/06/2017 21:35

DS1 took days, DS2 flew out after 5 pushes.

Samanthajpa · 23/06/2017 21:38

My second birthday was lots easier then my first. My first I was having pains for 26 hours. Pushed over 3 hours, had an episiotomy.

My second my waters want contractions started about 8 hours after and 15 hours from when she was here. No tears no need to be cut.

Xx

First was induction at 40+15 - was horrific, forceps delivery - 10 medical staff in the room when she was born. Couldn't walk for a week I was in so much pain.

Second - 10 days late - labour started at 7am, went for a walk with DH, went out for ice cream, baked some cakes, in hospital at 10pm birthing pool. Had to get out eventually to check his heartbeat but then my waters broke and I said I needed to push.
The midwife said well go on then and I was so surprised because with my first all I heard was don't push don't push don't push!!!!

So I pushed and out he popped!

I felt so in control and in charge of his birth .... if it wasn't for the fact the little bugger didn't sleep for seven months I'd have had another!

MyBreadIsEggy · 23/06/2017 21:42

I had an absolutely foul hospital induction experience with DD...something I will never repeat. I've said from then on, I will never choose to give birth in a hospital again.
I had DS at home 17 months later at home.
My labour was longer (10 hours as opposed to 3 hours with DD), but was much much easier. I think it was a mixture of being so much more comfortable in my own house, being left alone by the attending midwife to just get on with it the way I wanted to and I knew what to expect pain-wise.
Pushing was a million times easier - as my mum always says "Your first baby has already paved the way for the next ones". My son was out in two pushes.

Acopyofacopy · 23/06/2017 21:43

Same here - vbac after emcs. 4ish hours from first twinges to baby being born. No pain relief as it all happened a bit fast, but pain was manageable. Good luck Flowers

xyzandabc · 23/06/2017 21:44

1st induced out of it on pethidine for a lot of it, forceps in theatre as last resort before section. Luckily forceps worked. Not horrendous overall but definitely not nice.

2nd managing at home just fine, only went to hosp due to some blood in discharge. Born 40 mins after arrival with just 20 mins gas and air and 3 pushes. I remember saying to anyone who'd listen 'was that it?' very very easy.

No 3 home water birth ended in hospital with 17 people in the room after the 'oh shit' emergency button was pressed. Somewhat hairy experience but not as bad as 1st because at least it was quick and I was complete compos mentos due to no drugs at all!

First ended up in an emergency caesarean after dd1 was back to back and got stuck. My epidural wore off in all the confusion and it was absolutely horrific. Nine pound back to back baby stuck in my pelvis. I think I screamed in agony all the way to the theatre and then went into nervous shock. Couldn't even hold her for hours, I was so out of it. Dont remember much of it actually, blocked it out. Not how you want to remember the birth of your first child.

Dd2 was two weeks early, went into labour and had her perfectly naturally within an hour and a half and did it all on just gas and air, no time to even have an epidural inserted. Like a dream compared to the first. And I could even breastfeed too which I couldn't do with dd1.

Good luck. Grin
