Hi all

I've been so calm and laid back about childbirth and how it will be etc (first time mum) but I'm due a membrane sweep in an hour and am booked in for induction tomorrow night and all of a sudden I feel really panicky and worried. I don't feel I can do this. I've been extra exhausted and sore with SPD and weight of bump the last few days too so I'm a cocktail of fed up/scared it's all actually about to happen.

Any tips to calm down? My partner is at work today bit off tomorrow and will be with me as much as possible during induction (I go in at 630 but if nothing happening by 9pm he'll have to leave)

Trying to stay calm for baby and also because I hate showing emotions in front of people I'm not comfortable with. Though I'm sure this will change after it all gets going!

Anyone got any tips or advice?

You will be fine!! The best bit is about to happen! (not necessarily the actual birth bit, but hey, that's an experience too!), but you're about to finally see your baby for the first time!!

Do you know what helped me? When I started freaking out just before the birth, I looked at pictures of cute babies on pinterest and sorted through the clothes/baby bits I had already sorted 500 times . It made me much less anxious about the daunting birth situation, as I was focusing on the thought of cute baby cuddles and life with a baby.

You're going to be fine :) enjoy the early days with your baby. And good luck with the birth! Flowers

Google some hypnobirthing sessions from YouTube.
They are excellent for relaxing you and making you feel that your body is designed for this (which it is).
Even though you only have a day or two they will certainly help.
Very good luck op :)

Maggie Howell also has a few on iPlayer as well - birth prep is what you need.

I'd also question if it's the hospital saying no partner after 9pm - I was in a private room for my (overnight) induction and dh could stay the whole time. This is in a hospital that kick out partners on wards so there may be able to sort that. Just take it all step by step. Ask to have a run down of what the potential stages will be when you get in. I used the evening before induction to have a carby tea to have energy later on. Take a book/iPad/phone as there can be lots of waiting before contractions start. Good luck!

Thanks for replies all.

Going to try concentrating on baby and look up hypnobirthing. I think I had almost forgotten the baby part a little which sounds ridiculous! Looking at her little socks already and helping alot Smile

I think the hospital won't let him stay over as it's just the pessary part of the induction I get tomorrow night? And if that doesn't work will be the IV induction next day? Sure that's what mw said. Though when she was telling me about it I foolishly thought shed be born by then naturally and it wouldn't come to induction lol

Thanks alot everyone. Going to pull on my big girl pants (literally and metaphysically!)
