Recovery from c section when you had SPD

I had my baby by emergency Caesarian just over 2 weeks ago. I had placenta previa and had lost quite a lot of blood.
When I was pregnant I had severe SPD and had to use crutches. I have hypermobility syndrome so have always had problems with my joints.
SPD is meant to go away when you had the baby and I do feel a bit better but I still can't walk normally and. I my hips don't feel like they are in the right place. I can't use the crutches anymore.
How long did it take for you to walk properly again? Is there anything I can do to speed things up?

Congratulations on your new baby Flowers
I have hypermobility too and had quite severe spd with both pregnancies and ended up on crutches. I also had c-secs. Everyone is different, but I found that it took a long time for the pain in my pelvis and instability to start to ease. I was expecting to snap back to normal quickly after giving birth, because that's what everything I had read suggested, but that certainly wasn't the case for me. I just had to take things slowly. It probably took a year for me to feel significantly better after each pregnancy. It may be worth asking if you could be referred to a physio, if you don't feel any more comfortable in the next few weeks. They can give you tips on how to minimise the discomfort of everyday movement like standing up, getting in and out of the car etc. and can also give you exercises to strengthen your pelvic muscles to help support the whole area. I hope it eases for you soon Smile

Thank you
It is good to hear from someone who has been through the same thing.
I wasn't expecting to feel better straight away, although a lot of people seem to spring back. My midwife told me it should be better by now and I should try to leave the house to get my confidence up.
A year doesn't seem that bad for a recovery period. It's good to know there is hope for recovery.
I will try to see a physiotherapist. I have got one of those slings so I don't have to carry her but to be honest I have just sat on the sofa with a triangle cushion with her on my lap.

Hello and congratulations!
I had very bad spd and was on crutches from week 20. My spd was much better the instant my twins came out as in I could walk unaided. It took quite a long time to feel normal again though. Running or walking up hill would bring it back for the first two years. I started weight training when my twins turned three and that was the real turning point. I haven't felt a twinge since. I don't have hypermobility though so I appreciate it might be different for you.

Only a few weeks for me. I don't have hypermobility though. I would definitely see GP so they can refer you to physio

I don't have hypermobility but my spd was resolved pretty much as soon as dts were delivered. I was also pretty pumped full of drugs so that probablyyad a beating in making it feel better but I was walking unaided 12 hours after EMCS.

Thank you all. It probably is worse because I have hypermobility. I will see if I can get an appointment with my GP.
