I Have been booked in for a c section on the 19th march and i am totally nervous!!! I had a very difficult birth with my ds who is 2.10 which ended up with 3rd degree tear and lots of other probs!! I am getting to the point that i cant sleep because i am so worried about having a c section, and the thought of not being in control of my body scares me to death! i had to have a spinal after i tore so bad with my son and i hated not feeling my legs etc! I am worried about the pain after the section as i have heard so many horrible stories!! has anyone got anything positive to say about c sections or advice on calming the nerves between now and next monday!!!! Please help. H27

Mine was a positive experience. No pain really, was off painkillers within 24 hours.

I had an elective c/s on 23rd Feb and it was fab, a very positive experience. I had the op about 10.30am and was sitting out of bed by tea time, up and about independently by 6am the following day, I was home by lunchtime on the 3rd day (48hrs in hospital in total). I'm now feeling totally fine and 100% recovered. I can honestly say I've not been in pain at all.

My advice would be to be prepared to be as independent as possible in hospital, have everything within arm's reach of your bed, get dh/p to stay as long as possible to help. My dh left 1litre sports bottles of mineral water tucked into the side of my bed so I had lots of drinks during the night without buzzing for the mw's (bf and hot hospital meant I was constantly drinking water)

It is very very kind of you all and i now feel allot more reassured that its not such a terrible thing to have a c section! I have one more midwife app next wed and then in on the friday for pre theatre checks etc! I am nervous but excited about meeting my new baby!! not long to go now! but time seems to be dragging. Thanks again for the lovely messages. h27

My Mum had 2 ceasareans and recovered quickly and easily. Her most positive expereince, however, was when she was at the gyno 30 years later and was told that because of her C sections she still had the vagina of a 16 year old!
Was rather embarrassing when she reported this, but she was so damn proud of herself!

I had elective c-section with DS after an emergency c-section with DD.

It was a totally serene experience, the radio was on, the theatre staff were great, chatty, friendly, told us what was going on, surgeon went through the whole process, chatted whilst it was happening.

I was shocked to be told to get out of bed and walk the next day and it was quite painful but the next day I was up and about on my own, in the bath, feeding the baby, came home the next day and got on with it and I had a 2 year old as well. Honestly, bit sore but no PAIN as such. You have to take it slow, no hoovering or daft stuff like that but if you are sensible, take care of you and the baby and that's it, you should be back to normal in four-six weeks.

All the best.

i could of written this post myself. i too had a 3rd degree tear and needed surgery to repair. first labour was so dreadful i didnt get pregnant again for 6 yrs!!

however

last month i had an elective cs and it was the most magical day of my life.

i too was petrified of the actual procedure having nightmares and then worrying how i will manage post op but the midwives and drs etc made me feel so relaxed. it was all laid back and jolly singing along to the music we chose. after 5 mins of feeling sooo nervous you could be sick your baby is here and you dont even think about whats happening to you.

the midwives are liberal with pain relief but if they dont know you hurt they wont administer it so myadvice is ask for the morphine and get as much as you can.

it really isnt as bad as u imagine however he painkillers do constipate you so ask for a mild laxative. i took lactulose from the start and i didnt have too much trouble. also peppermints and arnica to help with wind and brusing.

my lo is 4 weeks old now and i am completly back to normal have been since week 2.

i hope this helps and that ur op is as successful as mine
