Induction or c-section? Any advice?... so confused :(

Hey guys.

I have been told my baby is small and needs delivering next week! I will be 36weeks on Tuesday.

They have offered both induction and c-section to me as they are concerned small baby's can't cope with labour? Also inductions can be unsuccessful in first pregnancy and end up in emergency c-section anyway? So now I am confused and panicked about what is best for my baby..?

I would love a natural birth but am nervous it will all end up not working and we will be rushed in for c-section!

Anyone had any similar situation's? ? x

How's your blood pressure? Mine was high, so I had an elective induction at 37 weeks. I met 3 consultants (due to a shift change over a weekend - my case didn't merit that much close attention ordinarily) who told me that high blood pressure plus induction tends to mean speedy and stress free delivery. They will probably offer an epidural early on. I had my ds1 after 3 hours, pain free, nursed him immediately, it was just brilliant. I don't know if this fits your circumstances, but I hope it helps you make a decision.

SpookyPotato · 23/03/2017 14:55

C-section every time, it takes away the unpredictableness.

Sammy592 · 23/03/2017 15:27

Read the whole thread lol thank you it does help.

Blood pressure is ok. Nothing untoward so far. I have go in for a trace daily on her heart now until she is here. As I was in hospital with a bleed on monday. Shock they noticed my water had reduced 2 so could mean I am leaking my waters? I have noticed slight dampness.

I'm definitely feeling more comfortable and am getting used 2 the idea of the c - section. :)

Its booked on Tuesday morning the feeling iv got had slightly changed from being gutted and petrified to nervous and also exited.. I will be meeting her in just a few short days ! Grin xx

Sorry, you've had all this stress. I've never been induced but did have an emergency c-section at 37 weeks. Recovery was fine for me, really.
I'm reluctant to give an opinion but in your position I would probably opt for the CS.
Sorry if you've mentioned this already, but one thing to consider is whether your baby may need to spend a short time in SCBU, even as a precaution. You might want to ask about what happens in that situation.
I don't want to add to your stress in any way but I had never considered being separated from my baby and found it very difficult. I think it would have been much easier had I been prepared.
One woman I know who had an elective CS a few weeks early was given a tour of SCBU, so that it was somewhat familiar to her.

RyanStartedTheFire · 23/03/2017 17:02

I had an IUGR baby induced at 39 weeks. Everything was fine and a 4 hour labour.

RyanStartedTheFire · 23/03/2017 17:04

If your waters are leaking you could be favourable. Have they examined you at all yet? You should be offered a stretch and sweep before anything happens and given a bishops score which would be better to base your decision off.

Sammy592 · 23/03/2017 19:12

I haven't been examined yet I think it's planned for tomorrow as I have a scan to check waters an blood flow.

I have been feeling pressure down below like that dragging period pain u can sometimes get? Defo achy down there is that normal in later pregnancy?

Haha I wouldnt have been able to stop laughing if I farted I'm a child like that ! 😂 I'm always cold 2 so I'm guessing I'm going to shake like a leaf! Lol

I have heard some baby's are taken away to SBU obviously it's not something I would want but I undestand that it could happen especially as she is so small.. do they let u see them before they go? Or is it a quick rush them out? I got a fear that they will mix up my baby with someone else's !Shock x

If they're worried about baby going through labour then I'd take the section.

I've done both, Emcs for DC1 and induction for DC2. DC1 was born at 31 weeks and I was strongly advised that a section was the best option. I didn't argue! They know what they're talking about. Personally my induction was absolutely fine, quick labour on gas and air. But I appreciate I was lucky. C section was awful but I was pretty ill for other reasons so that can't have helped. I very nearly opted for a section second time around so it can't have been that bad.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/03/2017 20:07

Both my boys went to neonatal after c sections. They were both nearly 9lb (separate pregnancies , not twins!) because of gasping breathing and grunting noises. One went straight away, one went after a few hours. It's the hardest bit of the post section because obviously you cannot go to see them. Dh went to see them, a 9lb baby in a scbu just looks absolutely ginormous next to the teeny 5lb-ers.

Sammy592 · 23/03/2017 20:15

Definitely makes me feel better knowing it's normal to be nervous and hearing reassuring stories is such a massive help.

Wow I guess I better be ready just incase my little one does get swept away. Not that I like to think of it but it needs to be thought about xx

I was in the same situation at 36 weeks. The induction failed and I ended up with an emergency C section. Having had a vaginal birth with Vontouse for my first I would take the C section any time. Same as Sweets101 I found C section much easier to recover from.

Sammy592 · 23/03/2017 21:50

Defiantly happier now understand a bit more an have been reassured by many !

I'm now at home feeling very heavy.. hobbling around.. lots of period type pains an pressure. .. baby squirming around .. feeling quite sicky.. hmm let's just hope now iv gotten used to the idea she doesn't decide to throw a spanner in the work's! :0 x

Hey guys.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone's advice and let all know I had my baby girl on Monday 27th! :)

We originally booked a c-section for Tuesday the 28th but my body decided to go into labour the day before ! Lol (how my life goes)

I was in labour for 12hrs and only opened 3cm! I decided to go for the c-section as my baby had not got stressed yet but a long labour had a high risk of emergency or baby not making it. I'm so glad I did it in ye end it's not as bad as I hough . So thanks again!Flowers
