First labour I stupidly took always night, the mesh on them irritated my stitches.

Second labour I took asda maternity pads, constantly leaked.

Due 3rd in may and just starting to think about my hospital bag. Any suggestions for good sanitary or maternity pads please? Thanks

I used the tena discreet pants. They were in a pink packet. Then I shoved a maternity pad in them as well and felt very secure from leaks and to be honest not like I was wearing a nappy or anything.

I had the mothercare Maternity pads. They were great- no leaks and very soothing down below.

To anyone reading, please don't use Always towels. They can break down your perineum if you've had any trauma/stitches/bruising. Thick maternity towels from supermarkets/pharmacists (e.g. Boots) are best.

I had a 2nd degree tear and stitches and just couldn't bear the feel of any disposable pads. After a couple of days I gave up and used folded muslins and washed them. I still cannot bear the feel of disposables.

Boots own ultra thin pads. They really are absorbant and I found them much more comfortable against my 30+ stitches than I did the regular thick ones.

"They can break down your perineum"

What?

How??

George I've seen (and heard of) several broken-down perineums postnatally, and using scented/'wick-away moisture' Always sanitary pads were the common denominator. Ok so it's not evidence based but personally I'd steer well clear and use the pads which are appropriate for the purpose.
