Positive stories of C-Sections to calm my nerves please?

I'm trying to prepare myself for the need to have a c-section due to having a rather curvy baby!

It's something that has always been a fear for me as my mother had an emergency section with me and suffered really bad post-natal depression for years after.
Our relationship is nothing like that of hers with my siblings and it really worries me.

Does anyone have any positive stories of c-sections to share?

Hi All,

I just wanted to post a follow up and really just to say thank you SO much for your replies and positive stories.

I was told yesterday that a c-section was required (small pelvis and big baby) and this morning I had a beautiful baby boy who arrived by c-section.

I can't say I was overly enthusiastic about this but I can say for certainty that your stories really helped me "get my head round" this inevitable outcome and approach it in a positive way - I have a beautiful healthy baby boy sleeping next to me who arrived into the world in an organised and planned way with minimal risk to his health.

Again, just a massive thank you to all who shared their stories, you've no idea of the difference you've made!

Thanks

X

Congratulations! Take it easy now, rest as much as you can :) I hope you heal well and your baby thrives - my DD2 (also an ELCS baby) is ten months and currently fast asleep in my arms :)

If you're breastfeeding, shove a boob at the baby every time he makes a noise and remember there's no such thing as feeding or cuddling too much. And night feeds are crucial for establishing milk supply, don't worry if he's waking you lots, it is normal.

Well done you :)

My CS was lovely.
I had placenta praevia so it was an EMCS but I was booked for ELCS that day, it just happened 3 hours early as I had a bleed.
DH got there in time. The anaesthetist and the surgeon had a little fight over whether to crash GA me. The surgeon won thankfully so I had a spinal.
I had a fab mw holding my hand and monitoring DS throughout the rush to theatre, spinal etc. DH could hear me giggling from outside.
Very quickly I was numb, DH appeared wearing the silly scrubs ( I was an inpatient so I text him I was bleeding and he got from home to the hospital in 15 min. GOK where he parked! I was so happy to see him.
I had asked for the Beatles to be playing and they put my CD on. Very quickly DS was out, we didn't know the sex and they held him up so we could see.
I had lovely surgeons and they said they liked my music and say along while they sewed me up. Once DS was out and crying and the placenta delivered the whole theatre seemed to breathe a big sigh of relief.
It was the best day of my life, if I ever had another I would request an ELCS.
Good luck

I had a vaginal birth with ds1 and cs with ds2 because of placenta praevia. Recovery after cs was hard mainly because I had a 2yo who I couldn't lift for 6 weeks, but I certainly don't feel that it affected my relationship with ds2 in any way. In fact ds2 was born at about 9am and I spent the whole day in the recovery room with him having skin to skin before they took us to the post natal ward where we had to get dressed Grin......I had therefore more skin to skin than I did with ds1. Established bf both times and fed them both for over a year, and no pnd.

Good luck!
