Has any mum done hypnobirthing?

Any mums done hypnobirthing and found that it worked? I said on here before I had a phobia of vomit and I'm terrified so my midwife suggested it ans last night was my first class! Ino it's for child birth and not a phobia lol but my midwife said it should keep me relaxed and calm, also make the birthing processes abit more enjoyable! I suppose my real question is has anyone ever done it been totally relaxed and has a faster birth (with no vomit? Lol

Just to provide a balance...

Hypnobirthing is great, but it's important to recognise it's limitations. The amount of pain you're in during birth isn't really dictated by how calm you are - being calm certainly helps but the actual difficulty of the birth is dictated by:

Position of the baby on the day, plus
Your physiology (pelvic shape etc.)

Some births are just going to be more painful than others - there's no hard and fast rule that applies to every single one (some back to backs are agonising, some ok.) it's the interaction between your anatomy and foetal position that dictate length of Labour/pain levels.

So... why am I saying this? Basically because it's important you don't think that if you train then need intervention you've failed. Hypnobirthing is fantastic for straightforward births, for staying calm, for staying centrered. But some births, from the start, are going to need intervention. It's really important that you don't buy into this 'you can breathe any baby out if you're calm' myth.

Certainly do the course, it's a useful skill, but stay flexible with your expectations- birth is inherently unpredictable. I hope yours goes smoothly

I did and it was amazing. Didn't with my first and had a difficult labour and birth. Did with my second and had her quickly and genuinely pretty pain free. I had gas and air right at the end but that's it (compared to epidural with first! ) Go for it-I honestly think it's the best thing you can do in preparation for birth- and I'm usually a bit of a skeptic.

I did a CD. Its hard to say whether it had any effect on the labour, but the midwife did say I seemed very relaxed. I mean it still hurt, obviously! I was sick, with the gas and air, but I'm sick at the drop of the hat so it wasn't something I was trying to avoid particularly
