Did you have your waters broken?

40+1 today, prev elcs, vbac hoped for but c section booked for Monday. Two sweeps so far (turmesday and yesterday) and was a 'stretchy 2-3 cm' yesterday with thinned cervix.

Obviously anything could happen before Monday but if nothing does I go in either for c section or to have waters broken.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me re having waters broken at 40+4? Did it work for you? How long before things started happening?

Thanks!

I had my waters broken. It was my first baby. The head was never fully engaged, so there wasn't enough pressure for the baby to break my waters naturally.
I was due on the Sunday, I'd been having contractions from the following Tuesday, irregular. I was 40+2 on the Tuesday. I was originally booked in for a sweep on the Wednesday, but declined as i was having contractions and wanted to see if things would progress naturally. They didn't, so I had the sweep at 3pm on the Friday, at 40+5. The contractions got stronger and more frequent but my waters never broke. I went to the birth centre at 9pm on the Friday night. They waited as long as they could, and had me bouncing on the ball and things to try to break my waters. It didn't work, so at 3am the midwife broke them. It didn't hurt me a bit. Felt just like the sweep. The contractions got a hell of a lot stronger after that though. My baby was born at 6.58am on the Saturday morning, at 40+6.

How's it going this morning Nottalotta, any developments?

I had mine broken to induce labour with DD2 and contractions started less than a minute later. Like some PP, we ended up having complications due to the induction process (which I won't go into, unless you want me to). Everything worked out in the end Smile
I would absolutely recommend an epidural if you do have them broken manually. The birth was so much more relaxed than with DD1 (which was drug free), despite the intervention.
Good luck x

I had mine broken at 40+5, labour started within minutes and baby was born less than two hours later.
It was a really lovely experience and far better than my previous two rushed and panicked experiences!

Fingers crossed for either a miracle of spontaneous labour in the next 12 hrs, or the breaking of waters to do the trick tomorrow.

Hope the lack of updates yesterday means things have kicked off for you Nottalotta!

Nooooo! Was told to go into hospital at 2pm, too busy, sent home at 7.30 pm after an enthusiastic sweep. Back again today, and busy again.....
