And what size baby, quick or slow labour? Episiotomy? How did you recover?

10lb baby, tore from front to back because his huge American footballer shoulders got stuck during delivery. Labour was 12 hours.

14 stitches in total, and the scariest shit I've ever taken the next day.

SerialReJoiner · 06/01/2017 14:15

Thanks cx! :)

Boomies · 10/01/2017 21:51

7lb 10oz 4th degree tear...! But baby was stuck sideways so after being turned with forceps shot out at speed and the to surprise of everyone after just two pushes! If I have anymore kids it has to be an elective section!

Sparrowlegs248 · 11/01/2017 08:39

Argh. I don't know what to dooooooo! I am veering wildly from vbac to elcs. People I have seen so far:

Consultant 1: recommended vbac. Also said short time between pregnancies did not increase chance of scar rupture.

Mw1 - why would you want elcs? Vbac much better, easier to recover

Mw2 (specific vbac appointment) gave me a variety of facts. I came away thinking vbac if early spontaneous labour, elcs otherwise.

Mw3 - I think you've been put off vbac, will refer you to supervisor of mw.

Consultant 2 - why on earth would you want vbac?! Your chance of rupture is higher due to short time between births wouldn't take the chance.......

Consultant 3 - why elcs? Just have vbac. Far easier........

So next appointment is tomorrow.....

I had labial tear (despite/as well as episiotomy). Baby was 7lb6, labour seemed pretty fast to me (was induced on drip, from drip going in to having baby was around 5 hours).

The episitomy healed up fine but the labial tear didn't, there was some granulation tissue which was bloody uncomfortable. I had to go back for application of sliver nitrate about 9 weeks post partum. It sorted it out.

TeaCakeLiterature · 11/01/2017 20:48

I'm attending a clinic regularly for people with third or fourth degree tears and they did some research which they said showed that there's not a correlation between a tear first time and in subsequent pregnancies.

SarcasmMode · 11/01/2017 20:52

Yes - second degree tear but Peronism and labia too and a haemorrhage.

6lb 13 so average weight?

Slow I'd say. Contractions started 9pm Monday morning, 3am Tuesday morning went in but they didn't check me sent me home. 3am Wednesday morning went in was 4cm.

Had DD2 at 12.30ishpm.

They did a small existing but nothing big.

SarcasmMode · 11/01/2017 20:53

Oh and recovery it's hard to know if internal tear effected it but was sore to sit for quite some time.

Hellochicken · 11/01/2017 21:05

Induced, slow to go into labour nearly 3 days from start to finish, in the end epidural, episiotomy and ventouse, 9 pounds. healed fine 2-3 weeks

Induced, from induction 24 hrs until delivery, slow at end until episiotomy and then delivered v soon after. 8 pounds 6. healed fine 2-3 weeks.

Spontaneous labour, overdue, no epidural, 16(ish) hrs from waters breaking until delivery, slow at end, again delivered straight after episiotomy. 10.5 pounds. healed fine 2-3 weeks.

Induced, 24 hrs until delivery, delivered with no episiotomy and just a small tear that didnt need stitches. 8 pounds 9. healed fine 1-2 weeks.

Maybe by the 4th time I was stretched!

Newtothisshiz · 11/01/2017 21:23

Episiotomy, very quick Labour and had to get baby out quick. I also had a labial year. Baby was 8 pound 3.

Newtothisshiz · 11/01/2017 21:23

Tear that should have said.

Lovelilies · 11/01/2017 21:26

Grazes all 3 times labours 4,2 and 6 hours.
Babies 6.4lb, 7.4lb ad 6.7lb.
Arnica pillules last one from labour til about a week after, much quicker healing

happy2bhomely · 11/01/2017 21:26

I'v had 5dc, the heaviest weighing 11lbs.

No tears, no episiotomies, all delivered without intervention.

Flisspaps · 11/01/2017 21:27

Episiotomy, induced labour, forceps, 8lb 2oz DD - 3a tear.

Episiotomy, spontaneous labour, forceps, 11lb 7oz DS - no tearing

Abstardust · 11/01/2017 21:29

Second birth was a vbac, had a Episiotomy stitched up, baby was 8lb 4oz. Labour was about 3hrs. Has healed really well, was ready to ready to leave hospital after 8 hrs. Was out for breakfast and food shop 2 days after birth.

wheelwithinawheel · 11/01/2017 21:32

5lbs13 no tear, no episiotomy, 6lb14 no tear no episiotomy, 8lbs6 no tear no episiotomy and he came out like superman. I think I've got a springy fanny Grin

BelafonteRavenclaw · 11/01/2017 21:34

DS1- 7lbs3, 49hr labour
DS2- 9lbs10 2hr labour

So not very conclusive, sorry.

BelafonteRavenclaw · 11/01/2017 21:35

I forgot to add, both naturally tore. 2nd degree. Both healed quickly without any further problems.

Miz10 · 11/01/2017 21:47

Very slow labour 8lb10oz baby and third degree tear. Long recovery after having to be stitched in theatre with a spinal

Oscha · 11/01/2017 21:50

2nd degree tear both times. First labour was 50+ hours, second was 5. Both average sized babies. Tears were stitched with a bit of gas and air and healed absolutely fine. No problem at all. (I also didn't feel the tears happening, in case that's something worrying you.)

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 11/01/2017 21:57

DS was 8lb 5oz
Easy enough labour, but was pushing for 2 hours. Didn't feel any tear (pethadine and G&A).
Midwife was undecided whether I had a 2nd or 3rd degree tear. Was taken in to theatre to get patched up anyway.
Tear of perenium, was told I might experience some faecal incontinence Shock but had no such thing!

Healed up nicely, tiny scar, a little bit tight during sex at the wrong angle.

2ducks2ducklings · 11/01/2017 22:01

I tore with my first baby. She was 7lb 1. I was induced and was in active labour for about 10 hours. I had stitches but about 10 days after the birth I had to go to the Drs as the stitches were really pulling at my skin. The Dr took one look and sent me off to hospital to be sorted out.
Put it this way, there would have been no way my second baby could even have been made if I had left things as they were. It took the whole 'designer vagina' thing to extremes. Confused

BalaRua · 11/01/2017 22:09

I had a second degree perineal tear and two first degree labial tears. From induction drip going in to birth was just under 5 hours. Baby was 7lb 9. The midwives who did my stitches must have been some of the best in the business as I never had any pain or problems with recovery. I've honestly never noticed the tear. Every HCP who has looked at the stitching since has remarked on how neat and unnoticeable the tear was.

russetbella1000 · 11/01/2017 22:10

Reluctant to post (as sounds a bit boasty) but just want to tip the balance a bit...
I was two weeks overdue -had to be induced and although I thought I'd get every intervention after that, my 8lb 3 baby was born in four hours with gas/air and no tears/cuts.

chipsandchilli · 11/01/2017 22:17

3 DC, 2 were back to back, all around 7lb. I didn't tear with any but had grazes with one. I went to antenatal classes with DC one and was told when you get to this point, we tell you to stop pushing then you must stop pushing and the reasons why. IDK why but that just stuck in my head, i can remember being told to stop pushing with DC1 and gritting my teeth to stop myself. What i got away with regarding tears i made up for with piles, especially from the 2 BtoB's
