Induction Unsuccessful

We were admitted into hospital on Friday for an induction using Propess. We have completed the 30 hour cycle and there is no change, and the cervix is unreachable / fully closed.

We have been recommended to try again after a 24 hour rest break. Has anyone had experiences with Propess and what are the chances of it working a second time around if it didn't the first time?

We are starting to worry now and are considering if an elective C-Section is the best way forward. All advice welcome Smile

No advice sorry. How many weeks are you? Is it induction for being overdue?

TomNikki14 · 11/12/2016 12:43

Hi, 39 weeks + 5 - the blood pressure flowing into the placenta is higher than they'd like and they have said that it is starting to fail and her growth is starting to slip so we need her our sooner rather than later. Sad

I was induced twice and it failed both times. They said that policy is then to do a c section. Unfortunately it was a very conservative consultant who was on duty and said that there was no reason not to try again. I went into spontaneous labour a few days later as I didn't want to go through another failed induction. Baby was fine in my case though.

Having had 2 natural births then a subsequent c section I wish I had pushed for a section after failed induction (relates to childbirth injuries for me, not caused my failed induction!)

I meant to say, when it was clear the second induction wasn't working they tried to break my waters but my cervix was also too far closed!

Honestly? In your situation I would ask for an elective section. If there was no risk to the baby then another go at induction would be reasonable but with a failing placenta, at term, I'd want my baby out today.

welshweasel · 11/12/2016 12:51

(I was in the same situation but a few weeks earlier and was offered induction but went straight to section)

Frazzled2207 · 11/12/2016 13:42

I think in your situation I would be asking for a csection. You tried induction, it didn't work.
I know two people where 2nd induction did work but neither had a failing placenta.

FinnegansCake · 11/12/2016 14:49

Due to the failing placenta I would definitely go straight for a c-section. My DD was advised to have one for that reason at just under 38 weeks, and told the baby would be better out than in. Another failed induction would waste too much time.

How are you getting on?

TomNikki14 · 11/12/2016 23:55

We had a discussion with the Doctor this evening and after further examination he advised no change in regards to the cervix opening, so we are having a elective CS at 11am tomorrow morning. Nervous but excited at the same time Smile
