I KNOW it's not advisable BUT has anyone ever broken their own waters?

Desperate times call for considering desperate measures.
I know it's prob not safe, risk of infection etc
BUT
have you ever done it, is it a thing people do? And if so, how?

Don't be an idiot. Yes, you'd be introducing a massive risk of infection without any guarantee of actually going into labour.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 15/11/2016 00:17

Why? Why on earth would you do that?

Frequency · 15/11/2016 00:19

Are you okay OP?

I'm sorry, I couldn't think of a way to make that sound less patronising. I do mean it genuinely.

What you thinking of is not safe and not a terribly usual thing to consider doing either. Do you need to talk?

mustthinkofabetterusername · 15/11/2016 00:19

Way overdue and looking at a sectin this week

Don't be a dick.

My friends newborn is very poorly with meningitis because he waters broke and the hospital sent her home and she got an infection.

Broken waters does not mean immidiate labour.

mustthinkofabetterusername · 15/11/2016 00:21

Desperately trying to avoid theatre. Maybe the supermoon will kickstart something overnight

OP posts:
kavvLar · 15/11/2016 00:22

Please please don't even consider it. Speak to midwife and consultant about your options. There are many different ways you can go but this is dangerous and you won't be doing yourself or the baby any favours. Sorry Flowers

Jinglebellsandv0dka · 15/11/2016 00:22

This has to be a joke - if not I worry for your child's future safety if you can be so stupid and irresponsible

Frequency · 15/11/2016 00:22

Why are they suggesting a section and not induction?

kavvLar · 15/11/2016 00:23

Have you had sweep etc? Is an induction a possibility? How over due are you?

Mungobungo · 15/11/2016 00:23

Whaaaaat?

Would you really risk the wellbeing of yourself and your baby? And why? What are the desperate times?

Are you just fed up with being pregnant? And if so, is that really worth the risks to you and baby?

I think you really do need to think very carefully about this. Broken waters can and do lead to infections which can ultimately kill women and babies. Not wanting to be a scaremonger here, but I can't imagine being able to a) break your own waters in the first place and b) doing so without potentially harming your baby or yourself and introducing an infection or causing yourself to bleed to death.

Please tell me that this is some sort of awful joke!?!?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 15/11/2016 00:23

Jesus. A section isn't the end of the world you know. Dead babies are worse than sections.

Frequency · 15/11/2016 00:24

Can we try and remember that some people suffer from anxiety and are not able to think rationally at times?

I'm sure OP's child will be perfectly cared for once he or she is here.

mustthinkofabetterusername · 15/11/2016 00:24

Past medical history means options are spontaneous natural labour or section.

Unwise idea I know, I'll put it down to the ruddy supermoon

OP posts:
TheUnworthy · 15/11/2016 00:25

I've had two sections. They were easy.

Even if the surgeon was blind drunk it wouldn't be as risky as what you are considering.

Please don't feel embarrassed but what you are considering doing is irrational, very dangerous for you and your baby and not what is class as normal thinking at all.

If you speak to s medical professional about this they will help you, please.

pickledparsnip · 15/11/2016 00:26

Jingle don't be so dramatic. Way to go to make an expectant mother feel like shit. OP I take it you've tried all the usual methods for inducing labour?

mustthinkofabetterusername · 15/11/2016 00:26

Have already had multiple sweeps, no labour yet

OP posts:
PleaseNotTrump · 15/11/2016 00:28

Wtf. Of course not.

mustthinkofabetterusername · 15/11/2016 00:28

Have tried EVERYTHING

Pretty sure I'll need to namechange after this post! Blush

OP posts:
TheUnworthy · 15/11/2016 00:29

mustthinkofabetterusername no need to be embarrassed.

Could I ask if this is your first baby?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 15/11/2016 00:30

Very unwise you numpty. Have the section. All that matters is a healthy baby.
A planned section is OK. I was on my feet 8 hours later. Have minor overhang on my tummy and a fabulous we.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 15/11/2016 00:31

DS. I've spent hours and hours on MN but still my phone 'corrects' it to we.

mustthinkofabetterusername · 15/11/2016 00:32

Not first. Previous poor experience of theatre etc. Clearly I've been really stupid thinking about it. Idea off table.

OP posts:
pickledparsnip · 15/11/2016 00:35

Op you're feeling desperate, don't feel bad.

TheUnworthy · 15/11/2016 00:35

mustthinkofabetterusername ds is only seven months old.

I well remember the nights of pure panic leading up to his section (and DD's had gone well!) and anxiety has a habit of making you think irrationally sometimes!
