Homebirth - if m/w are here a while what do we feed them?

Will they bring their lunch for instance or do we get food in. Last time it was just before lunch so Dh went and bought sandwiches for everyone, but what if it's at night? If they're here a while then biscuits won't sustain them.
What do m/w like to eat on duty?

How about fresh pasta and a nice jar of sauce? They cook really quickly and most people like it and you don't have to put extras in and you can have it too.

Pasta n pesto I have in with some garlic bread and chuck a pepper at it maybe. No Peachy I don't think I'll be ringing them tonight. Have been contracting since 1pm but nothing escalating. Kinda frustrating!
Could always order pizza I suppose.

in terms of food that sounds good to me. I don't think they would expect food but I'm sure they would like it to be offered.
I hope you are not left hanging about in pre labour?? for much longer, poor old you.

we're not fussy and I'm sure it will be appreciated, especially if they've come to you in a hurry and may not have had time to get food together.!

I spent the early part of my labour making a cake and a lemon meringue pie for the midwives but they didn't want any (well it was the middle of the night!) I enjoyed eating them after the birth though

We didn't feed ours either time, but first time my mum was there and offered but they declined and second time it just didn't occur to me as I was in labour and it was only me, dh and the midwives so we were all concentrating on that really.

We bought a huge tin of biscuits and plenty of tea and toast (plus the usual fruit bowl bits). TBH I don't think they expect alot just some nibbles to sustain them... although one MW did drop a hint that she loves a bacon sandwich after the baby has arrived

blimey sorky - you've given me another thing to worry about now! It never even crossed my mind that the MWs might be hungry!
(this is part of my plan that baby will be born very calmly at about 10pm after an hours labour )

I bought some specially nice bikkies, several varieties. Also had plenty there for Sandwiches and some Pizzas in the freezer, just in case.

Hmmm... I've not thought much beyond tea and digestives. Might get a few frozen pizzas in just incase.

Honestly, I really don't think midwives expect to be fed, you're concentrating on other things!

Easy stuff like sarnies, soup, pasta and sauce. If it is early morning then cereal, toast, maybe croissants etc. Fruit and soft drinks as well as hot drinks

They got tea and biscuits, there was bread, cheese etc around but it was night time and they didn't want anything, afterwards they got going fairly sharpish once we were settled, bless the wonderful women thy had just worked through the night and were desperate for a couple of hours kip before their clinics started!

Of course no way of knowing when you will go into labour and how long it will last. Just make sure there is stuff they can easily help themselves to so your dh doesn't have to leave you to feed them!

Although my HB never happened, my M/W who is very funny and friendly put her order in for lean bacon sandwiches when we met to discuss what would happen . Although she made it clear to Dh he would only have to make them after baby had arrived and iwas being cleaned up etc.

My midwife was here a total of 7 hours, as it was an unexpectantly complicated birth. She brought her own sandwiches, and refused anything we offered her, including biscuits! The other midwife the biscuits, she wasn't here long, but had just come from a night birth, so was tired and hungry. She didn't want to eat anything else though apart from the biscuits!

I have no recollection of this, and never gave it a moment's thought beforehand either . Midwives were here from about 1pm to 6.30 but only my midwife for the whole of that, plus a succession of others. I think dh may have made them a cuppa at some point but really, my mind was on other things
I don't remember what happened afterwards either but they may have had a cuppa while I had a bath - or did I have the bath after they went? I have absolutely no idea!

I had a couple of frozen homemade meals in the freezer (to be microwaved) and biscuits and cakes etc hanging about and of course tea/coffee which i think i took out when i was in early labour and i guess must have been eaten by the doula/mw/dh but this is the first time i have thought about it since! Think they appreciated some food etc but i do remember my mw went home for quite a few hours coz my labour was very slow and i reckon she ate there. All the best

Tommy I apologise for another item to add to the list of inane things we are worrying about . Been in pre-labour for what seems like 3 years and am focussing on bizarre elements of the birth. I keep thinking will the scenario change depending on the time of day?

know how you feel! I think I am just assuming this one will be quick like Ds2 (2 hours) and at a nice sociable time so I won't need to worry about anything else apart from having the baby!

Tea and toast i would say.
I worked all day last week 9-5 and went straight to a home del. at 4pm.Lady delivered at 2am and i got home at 5am-no time to nip home to collect/make sarnies ect, but sometimes we do work long long hours so toast is really appreciated .
Dont worry-they will go make it themselves i`m sure .
