Hi, preg with number 3 (only just) and have had problems during the last 2 births and being prepared for c/s when they managed to deliver DS1 by vontous and DS2 by forceps with a spinal block in theatre after signing the c/s paperwork as he needed turning because he got stuck and they weren't sure he would turn and if not the only option was c/section then!!

I am concern that after 2 near misses on emergency c/s whether to ask for one this time and if they will do it. ALso concerned re the recovery time when I have 2 sons who will be 3 and 1 when this one arrives.

Any help appreciated please,. thanks.

I think it will depend on the reasons why your last two labours were problematic - were you just very unlucky, or was there a medical reason why the babies were getting stuck?

Recovery from c/s will be hard work especially with 2 tiny ones to deal with. I think you will need full-time help for at least the first couple of weeks after birth, especially as you won't be able to lift the 1year old.

I really hope things go well for you x

i would ask to see your notes from the last two births and work through them to see if your labours ended with instrumental deliveries for preventable reason.....

i would look at not making a snap decision now, but looking into what would be best ..maybe make a list of pros and cons for a vaginal birth or elective c.s

the position you labour in, and many other things can make a difference to how the birth goes...

How long were your previous births? Were you tired after a long labour? Had you had an epidural? Were they big babies - or more importantly, did they have big head circumferences - and have you got a small pelvis? There are lots of questions here that you need to go through.

Hi, DS1 was induced due to pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks. Started 4:00pm and DS1 born at 6:00am next day by vontouse after his bp kept dropping. He was 6lb 3.

DS2 went into labour naturally 1:00am in home from home unit, walking and on feet all the way through the labour. DS2 was facing up instead of down so got stuck. Into theatre to try and turn using forceps with a spinal block in case they couldn't. Had to sign all the paperwork for a c/s as they thought it would go to that. DS2 was 7lb 8.

It sounds like 2 unfortunate labours that could have happened to anyone, but unluckily you had them both
I really couldn't say whether there are grounds for an elective c/s.
I think more importantly you need to decide what you want to do and start feeling positive about the birth - there doesn't sound like any reason you can't have a natural birth.
In some ways I know how you feel. I had two 'not great' births, one preterm ventouse delivery and one undiagnosed breech emergency c/section.
I really think I'd love another baby at some point but the thought of having another bad birth scares me.

Thanks everyone, I guess I will have to talk it over with my midwife and see how things work out.

Hi jersey

I would ask your community midwife if she can arrange to go through your notes from the previous deliveries with you, maybe you could then make a list of questions that you can ask when you go for a hospital appointment hopefully this will help to arrange a care plan for you when you are in labour

jersey · 05/02/2007 18:21

good idea helen, I have rung the doctors today to get put on the midwifes list so when she rings me re my first appointment I will ask her.
Thanks

The first appointment is usually a long one and normally there is an opportunity to discuss previous deliveries but not enough time really for her to get your notes and go through them properly, if she says she cant do it then ask her who will be able to

thanks helen will do. Luckly she was my midwife last time so being that it is only 7 months ago I am hoping she will remember me.
