Best/easiest snacks for keeping up energy during delivery

Just that really. Most things I can think of are either a faff or a bit rubbish to eat (think high energy nutty protein snack things). Currently packing my hospital bag (39 + 4) and have got stuck pondering on this issue.
Any suggestions or advice? Smile

I really couldn't eat anything at all, but I really wanted drinks - fruit juice in particular.

Thank you why. Not usually particularly sensible but I was pleased with that idea! Grin

Drinks basically and cashew nuts

The drinks I drank during. Then after at like 2am when water at hospital was warm and rank. And the nuts a great snack whilst breastfeeding

I was starving during dc1 labour but wasn't allowed to eat from 12 noon when I arrived at hospital until the post birth toast at 10.30pm. I remember fantasising about what I would have to eat.
Dc2 labour was done and dusted in an hour so no time to eat.

Dc3 I was violently sick throughout so didn't eat anything.
Not much help here sorry op. I didn't realise you are allowed food after dc1.

I sipped Lucazade, apple juice and water through each of my labours - the gas and air made me really thirsty. Like pp have said, it's after labour that you can be famished. I took - and ate - prunes, apricots (to help with the first v stinging poo (tmi, sorry!)) cereal bars and chocolate. With my third, my mum bought me tangerine segments and grapes which were straight from the fridge and they were delicious (the hospital is usually overheated so anything cooling is lovely). Good luck!

My friend swore by lucozade tablets as she was told a lack of glucose could stop the progress of labour

I scoffed a Mars bar on the way to hospital and that did me until DS was born!

Eating didn't cross my mind once when in labour.

High sugar non-fizzy drinks like the full fat flavoured waters etc were my saviour. Couldn't stomach food but they were great - ice cold (had some in freezer do defrosted but cold later on in labour!) and took away the odd gas and air taste.

We packed flapjack, cereal bars and sweeties for ds's birth, dp ate most of it though! It was a 30 hour labour so I also had to have some pretty grim hospital food in there too. Don't take your favourite sweeties. I can't eat Percy Pigs now after having them in labour!

I went into labour at 3.30am and not a morsel passed my lips until the post birth toast at approx 10.30pm. The midwives tried to get me to drink some lucozade at one point as I was exhausted but I just couldn't stomach anything.

Your DH on the other hand should pack plenty of snacks, mine was starving and had to disappear to get himself food several times and I hated it when he was gone!

FortyFacedFuckers · 12/08/2016 20:16

I wasn't allowed to eat in case I needed an emergency section.

SoftSheen · 12/08/2016 20:18

Fruit juice and jelly babies. You probably won't feel like eating much, but a little sugar hit does help with energy levels.

Also a good idea to take some high energy snacks (flapjacks, dried fruit and nuts, biscuits) for afterwards, which come in handy when you are up all night breastfeeding.

BaronessBomburst · 12/08/2016 20:21

I snacked on cherry tomatoes and dried figs in between contractions, and drank bouillon.
I wasn't going to get bunged up. Grin

pettyprudence · 12/08/2016 20:23

I sat on my bed eating the chocolate hobnobs I'd bought for the midwives (it was on the list of things needed for a home birth - biscuits for the midwives)

Chillywhippet · 12/08/2016 20:33

Pack snacks for birth partner and make sure they are dressed with layers so that they can keep themselves warm or cool.
DH saying that he was hungry and then cold happened with DC1 but we were better prepared and at home for the others.
My mum brought me some M&S fresh fruit tubs afterwards. Delish
