Mine was absolutely fantastic and stayed with me for the whole 11 hours or whatever it was I was in the hospital for before having DD. She talked to me, ran around after me, handed me the entonox when I desperately needed it and I thought she was fab! I think I remember even telling her that I loved her (once the labour had really started!)

I second that - I had one for dd1's birth. Couldn't fault her - was really caring & lovely and stayed with me all the time.

agree withthe others, I had a student midwife when giving birth to dd, she was amazing, made me feel completly at ease, stayede with me the whole time, was very capable and confident in what she was doing.

I couldnt thank her enough, I kept saying 'you willmake such a good midwife you're brilliant!'

Now I actually want to become a midwife! after seeing the work they do and how dedicated mY midwives were.

Thats brilliant!!!! We obviously do something right. I've nearly qualified now (not long at all ). I hope in the future I still have the time to spend with my 'ladies' that I do as a student. I'm feeling a shift already though, as a senior student I am allocated my own women to care for. I was on a late shift last week and had sole responsibility for 6 women. Simply because there were 32 women on the ward and only 3 midwives. I just hope the current staffing 'crisis' has been resolved by the time I've qualified!

Keep your experiences coming!!!

i had 2 student midwives - one at each birth

the first was very very young, at least, she looked it. straight out of school, caked in make-up, didnt utter a word the whole time and looked like the did NOT want to see what she was seeing! was a complete spare part and clearly felt uncomfortable. MW had to bark at her to get her to fetch O2 etc

i felt a bit sorry for her, poor thing, she was probably lovely, just seemed out of her depth?

hope that doesnt sound unkind

the 2nd student was glorious - older, maybe mid 20's, very chatty, it seemed she had been through childbirth herself (although i was guessing, she may just have been to lots of births, i dont know) she was confident and this made me feel at ease. she was v professional and had a trickload of common sense. she was also very hands-on and seemed genuinely delighted to have been at the birth of my daughter (come to think of it, i was sobbing all over the place, v hormonal, i grabbed her and hugged her and got her uniform covered in blood, poor thing, she didnt seem to mind..)

GOOD LUCK MIDDYMEE!!!

Was in hospital for a total of 8 days, 4 days for a failed induction, 4 days for c-section. Had student midwives attend me on both occasions and they were fab, very kind, supportive, attentive and caring. One I think was very new to training as she hadn't taken blood on her own - I'm no good at all with blood tests but she was so lovely I agreed to be her guinea pig! All the midwives we had (and there were many!!!) were fab, all slightly dotty but full of admiration for you all - good luck with the training.
