Is it crazy and selfish of me to even consider a vbac. my eldest is four and my third is due in september

I'm sure there are some Mumsnetters who have done this: hopefully one will be along soon.

You might also want to look at this for some more information. There's a page on vbac after 2 or more sections.

lulumama · 24/01/2007 13:30

no , not at all.... i know someone going through a similar thing

DaisyMOO had a homebirth after 2 sections i think,i'm sure she will find this thread....

also, i recommend you look at the VBAC yahoo group too...can do a link to that later...

why do you think it is crazy and selfish?

and what were your 2 previous c.s for ?

My first dd was breeched and being nine days od and not really knowing any better i just accepted that i needed a c section.when i had my ds at a different hospital i was told i should have had a trial labour with dd.Ds turned out to be transverse so was told to have c section as well. I feel quite bitter about it all. Thirds due in september and would love a natural birth but obviousley dont want to risk well...whatever might go wrong.

well, it sounds like there is no reason not to have a trial of labour..as there is nothing 'wrong' medically, your babies have not been in the right postion,. although breech babies can be born vaginally, it is often hard to find sympathetic obs / midwife..

transverse babies cannot be delivered vaginally under any circs.

if you feel bitter , have you addressed this with anyone

there are organisations that can help after a traumatic birth experience.

there are risks of course, but the benefits of going for a VBAC might well outweigh them for you

i had VBAC after 1 c.s, and it was a fantastic experience , when you have that yearning to experience it, it is worth going for it , making an informed decision

LittleMamaT · 24/01/2007 15:22

Absolutely agree with lulumama. Why don't you wait and see what position the baby is in when you're nearer to term? If the baby settles into a 'head down' position you may feel confident enough to go for a natural birth. If the baby is breech or transverse again you can still go for a natural birth if you feel determined and confident enough.

You are definitely not being selfish or crazy - plenty of women achieve a vbac after one or more c-sections and for some women it is important to try and have a natural birth - it depends on how you feel.

Oh, this must be the thread Lulu mentioned the other day

Lulu's right, I had a vba2c 15 months ago (at home actually) TBH I wouldn't even mention it to your GP, it's not his/her decision and they will probably be quite negative. Either way you will still be referred to the consultant to book your elective CS

If you try and persuade them to 'allow' you, you're going to be disappointed IME. The main concern with any vbac is uterine rupture and there is a commonly held belief that there is a large increase in the risk of this happening after more than 1 CS. However, there is increasing evidence that this is not the case. There was a big study published last year which showed there was no significant difference in rates of uterine rupture after 1 or more than 1 CS. You can read an abstract of it here

I would also recommend the vbac yahoo group for more support.

I had to be pretty determined to get my vba2c and the main opposition was from the registrars rather than the consultants, but I just kept stating my intention to have a vaginal delivery and of course they can't force you to have a CS against your will! You need to make your own informed decision, but I would say that for me my vbac was the most amazing, empowering, life-changing, wonderful experience of my life and I am so glad I did it!

I've had 3 vbacs after 2 sections and am hoping to have my 4th vbac this March. The last was a home birth.
