erm...bit embarassed about asking this but do you think you can wear make up whilst having an elective section? only a bit of eyeliner/mascara - not Barbara Cartland stuff!

Anyone know?

I don't think so.... Well, mascara might be OK, but I think they want makeup off to make sure your colour is ok? I've had mascara at my ops. You will hardly think about makeup though! I brough mine along for photos etc. , but really didn't care in the end! Get waterproof though! xXx

lulumama · 11/01/2007 11:53

yes...but no nail polish on fingers or toes i don;t think .....
wear waterproof mascara!

jellybellie · 11/01/2007 13:30

With mine I was told no nail varnish on fingers/toes (even clear) and no make up - something to do with them being able to see what colour your face is in case the anesthetic isn't working properly - I'm sure mascara wouldn't hurt though..

Go and get your eyelashes tinted then you won't have any need for mascara and you won't be wearing make up either. Good luck.

pucca · 11/01/2007 21:47

No make up but they allowed me to keep nail varnish on toes on as i had none on fingers.

PollyParanoia · 12/01/2007 14:36

I wore a bit of mascara, and even some lippy I think. Was allowed to keep my contact lenses in too, though was asked if I was wearing them.
I took the precaution of getting the beautician to give me a "scar wax" to save me being shaved. I was trying to claw back any dignity I could on the day...

mrsflowerpot · 12/01/2007 14:40

I was told not to both times. Did dye my eyelashes and get my eyebrows done though in the mad belief i would look half decent in photos.

jabberwocky · 12/01/2007 14:41

I was told I could - maybe it's different in the US.

My last was an elective c-section and I didn't want to look like I had done the first time when I had an emergency c-section (you know - half dead!) so I had a spray tan and wore a little bit of make up, just waterproof mascara (in case of tears!) and a bit of blusher. They didn't say anything. I did have to remove nail varnish on toes which was a dark colour but I had a really pale pink on fingernails and they were fine with that. When I went into theatre the obs told me I looked really lovely and they were all commenting on my tan!!!! It was unbelievably vain of me (and I'm not usually) but the photo I had taken when I came out of theatre with ds in my arms in on display in the sitting room!

Had a full manicure, pedicure, facial and eyelash tint pre birth last time (two weeks overdue so had to fill my time !).

I was most put out when before being sent down to surgery told I had to remove my nail varnish on hands and feet so they could check the colour of skin via nails.

Even though I was in incredible pain and losing blood I still managed to protest at the effect on my lovely manicure and pedicure.

Nice to see I had my priorities right.

gingermonkey · 12/01/2007 15:27

That was me with my pedicure!!!! The Nurses brought me some nail varnish remover and I sat and moaned the whole time I was taking it off. Even got my friend to come up that night with some more for me so I could reapply!

incy · 12/01/2007 15:31

LOL gingermonkey I am so glad to hear I was not the only one !

rachelhill · 12/01/2007 15:36

Hi xenababy, make sure your mascara is waterproof as you will probably cry!

Mine was an emergency and I still had my clothes on...nightie, headphones, MOBILE PHONE in my dressing gown pocket.

BTW you might want to think about strimming the ladygarden too . My consultant rejected the job my midwife had done and whipped out a pair of scissors and a razor before she'd start (oh the shame!!!!)

gingermonkey · 12/01/2007 15:41

Of course, I forgot about that! A friend of mine is a midwife and she absolutley slates all of the women who don't trim down there. I was very considerate and used DH's beard trimmer, gave myself a nice tidy grade 2 all over. (you can't see down there can you when you have 9mth belly??!!)> It's an obvious one to say the legs need to be tidy too, wax or shave those the day before! It's amazing how many of us actually think about these things - when I was in hospital I didn't think anyone bothered!!!!!!

PMSL at the all over tan! what a laugh!
