Can anyone recommend a good Doula in the South West London area (Putney)

Hello - I'm booked into the Chelsea Westminster to have my first baby this year - due May 27th. I'm considered 'high risk' as I'm an ancient 35 and no skinny minx. I'm Australian so the whole Doula thing is completly new to me but sounds like a great idea.

I've looked a the Doula UK website and read alot of the threads here on Doula's - just wondered whether anyone could recommend someone who was fabulous.

Many thanks
xx

well, in as much as i am being an online doula!! not had my registration thourhg from doula uk , as they are redoing their website so my application has been on hold for 6 weeks.....( not just mine, all teh new applicants!)

so , am still waiting for RL expereincce..but had a good meeting at our local hospital maternity services liasion committee and met the head of midwifery who was really postive..so fingers crossed!

have to say, enjoy the online support, so i know i will be even more thrilled to get a RL experience...

having a doula can virtually half your chance of ending up with a c.s or instrumental delivery....and can really give you the confidence in your own body to birth your baby..
if you haven;t done much reading , may i suggest the two books, that are fantatic in helping you approach birth?

ina may gaskin's 'spiritual midwifery' and ina may's guide to childbirth..fantastic and empowering books !

How frustrating - i thought you would be registered by now. You have definitely been coming through with the words of wisdom on some threads I've read so I'm sure you will be great once you get out there and starting doing it for real!

Thanks muchly for the book suggestions. Will get onto them asap.

Good luck!

Can't help on the doula Cinnamontam, but just wanted to say that I've had both my DSs in the C&W and the staff were all great (although if you have a straightforward delivery the aftercare is a bit pants!!!)

MarsLady · 09/01/2007 16:44

I'm fabulous! lol or is that far too cheeky!

I'm about if you want to email me for my number and we can talk. I've just done a C&W birth and yes I cover London.

i recommend MarsLady - she's lovely or so she tells me

cinnamontam · 09/01/2007 16:47

Nah - bring on the cheek!
I'll definitely send you an email. Thanks!

Cheers Imafairy - I've heard it's pretty crap but I'm only 15 mins away from the hospital so hoping to get out of there as soon as I can and before they can inflict any of that crapness on me. My cousin had her second child there today at 12.35 and is will be home in half an hour. Talk about running out the door to avoid it

Ooooh lucky you cinnamontam being near the lovely Mars. Get her to make you some lemon drizzle as part of her contract...heee.heeee!!

Carmenere · 09/01/2007 17:01

Can I just say that having met Marslady, if I was ever to have another she would be my Doula of choice, she is very warmhearted and would inspire confidence.

MarsLady · 09/01/2007 17:02

Ok stop with the lovefest! lol I'm make ldc for all of you. Move along now!

cinnamontam · 09/01/2007 17:02

Good thinking. I love a good bit of lemon cake. We could do a Krispy Kreme swap although if she is around here then she can easily get to them as well. I make really good fudge

cinnamontam · 09/01/2007 18:20

Consider the KK's there although I can't vouch for the custard or the lemon filled ones lasting the journey home. In fact - who am I kidding. Not going to happen. I shall fall on them and inhale at will!

Bring on the lemony goodness

Thanks all - feeling pretty good with my days work of doula hunting - now i need to go and do at least 7 hours of work work that didn't get done as a result
